Brett Favor, originally from Guilford, Mississippi and raised in Kiln, Mississippi, is widely recognized as one of the greatest quarterbacks in football history. He led the Green Bay Packers to their first Super Bowl victory since the Vince Lombardi era and currently holds the NFL record for most passing yards. Despite playing in a run-oriented offense while attending Hancock North Central High School, Favor demonstrated immense potential and received a scholarship offer to Southern Mississippi - his only one. Initially serving as the seventh string quarterback during his freshman year, he quickly ascended to become the starter by the third game. Despite being hungover, he managed to lead his team to a comeback win.
During his third season at Southern Mississippi, Favor achieved an impressive victory against the 6th ranked Florida State Seminoles
...with a game-winning pass thrown just 23 seconds before time expired. Just prior to starting his senior year, Favor endured a terrifying car accident near his residence that resulted in three flips before finally resting on a tree. Fortunately, one of Favor's brothers broke a window and called for an ambulance. While being transported to the hospital,Favor anxiously questioned his mother if he would ever be able to play football again. He underwent emergency surgery which necessitated removing thirty inches of intestines.
After his successful career at Southern Mississippi, Brett Favor accomplished numerous records and obtained a teaching degree. The Atlanta Falcons selected him as the 33rd pick in the NFG draft. Upon joining the team, he signed a three-year contract valued at $1.4 million, along with a signing bonus of $350,000. However, during his debut NFG game, Favor's initial pass wa
intercepted and returned for a touchdown. Throughout his time in Atlanta, he struggled with five incomplete passes and two interceptions.
Nonetheless, Favor's journey took an important turn when he was traded to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for Tony Smith. In the 1992 season's second game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, coach Mike Hologram made a significant decision to replace Don Milksops with Favor at halftime due to a substantial deficit. Despite this change in quarterback position, the Packers faced a heavy loss of 31-3 in that particular match.
It is worth noting that prior to these events unfolding, Favor had led an impressive comeback victory against Alabama's Rolling Tide while playing for Southern Mississippi. Coach Gene Stallings described it as miraculous or legendary and acknowledged that on that day Favor had been larger than life.
