Biography of American Activist of Rosa Parks Essay Example

In the 1950s, she became local chapter secretary. She worked specifically on criminal justice. She would protect black men from false accusations and ensure that black people who had been sexually assaulted by white people, could get their day in court. This particular issue was close to Parks’ heart, for the reason being that in 1931, at the young age of 18, a white male neighbor had attempted to assault her.

December 1,1955, on a Thursday evening , Rosa Parks after a long day of work, boarded a city bus. As Rosa Parks walked through the first few rows of seats, which were mostly empty, she finally settled down in the middle of the bus. Black people were allowed to sit there as long as no white person was standing. After the bus made several more stops, the bus was full. The driver noticed that all the “ only whites” section was full and more white people were climbing aboard. He ordered all the people on Rosa

Parks row to move. No one cared at first, but when the driver yelled, everyone got off their seat except for Rosa Parks, she then got arrested. When she was interviewed she said “ My only concern was to get home after a hard day’s work.” The consequences of her not standing up, was the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which was led by a young Baptist minister named Martin Luther King Jr.

Rosa Parks felt discriminated against being told to stand up. She felt like she had the right to stay where she was. That’s why she told the driver that she wasn’t going to stand up because she wanted that particular

driver to know that they were being treated unfairly as Individual people. When Rosa Parks was asked about this incident she said, “As far as I can remember I knew there was something wrong with our way of life when people would be mistreated because of the color of their skin”. Rosa Parks knew she was going to be arrested, but she wanted the people to know how it felt like to be discriminated against. Rosa Parks was glad when the legally enforced segregation had come to an end. She said it was a much better feeling than the one she had when they were mistreated. Rosa Parks appreciated that people called her “Mother of the Civil Rights Movement ''. She was also called “ The First Lady of Civil Rights.”

Rosa parks was a person who was tired of discrimination and she stood up for herself because she wanted the people to know that it was wrong. Thankfully up to this day colored people can now sit wherever they want on the bus. Not only did she stop the discrimination against black people on the bus, but she also extended the African American rights, and by having these rights colored people have many more opportunities. It also made people realize that colored people shouldn’t be an issue in their life. We also have learned that Rosa Parks was a brave woman and that she was not afraid to stand up for her people. McCauley Parks passed away October 24, 2005 at the age of 92, at her home in Detroit, MI.
