It has been specifically prepared to provide a deep insight for reasons why colleges should provide monetary rewards to their athletes with the motive of leaving college administrations convinced that they should include college athletes in their annual institutional budget.

As the speech progresses I shall explain whether it is necessary to pay college athletes by supporting the reasons discussed with real life facts.

Introduction

Numerous academic institutions today can boast about the countless victories in history that the young lads and lasses in their college sports teams have brought them. rent level challengers. This is due to the team spirit, determination and motivation that is instilled among team members. Different institutions have adopted separate ways of motivating their college team players which impacts their performance as a result. The secret to winning over the hearts of these youngsters is by developing a personal emotional connection with them which will then reveal that there is the need to have college athletes paid.

Why Should College Athletes be Paid?

Some institutions will dispute that college athletes actually need to receive cash rewards due to financial budgets and rationality purposes. This presentation seeks to coerce the academic professionals that college athletes should be paid because of the following reasons.

Time is money

Time is very valuable and if it is well-utilized and well managed, money can be reaped out of it. College students are ripe with idea

on how they can earn money to cater for their stay in school (Griffin, 157). Therefore, it is necessary to pay college athletes for the time they are spending in the institutional training grounds to benefit themselves and raise the college’s sports reputation. Alternatively, as discussed in the video “Crossfire: Should College Students Be Paid?” the time they have sacrificed to participate in college games would have been spent at local business venues where they would have posed as salesmen and receive money compensation at the end of the day. To add, some of the athletes might have entrepreneurial knowledge that they would have applied within and outside school to get profit rewards.

College athletes should also be compensated for the time they have dedicated to sports in school thus missing out on other social events. For instance, an athlete would spend his/her weekend appearing for an important football tournament match thus missing out on family functions such as get-togethers. Furthermore, these athletes miss out a portion of their social life where they would have spent time with their boyfriends and girlfriends at a park or at the movies.

Money is the motive

Payment of athletes is an important motivation factor. College athletes yield satisfaction and remain motivated to play institutional championship games with an ultimate goal of winning when they are being paid some amount of money (Arnold, 566). Payment can be done to athletes as a way of rewarding them for their athleticism and excellence in sports. In order to attain a significant improvement in performance colleges can pay a certain amount to their athletes so as to boost their morale while on the pitch. It

will be noted that colleges which pay their athletes tend to perform best in college tournaments than those which reward their students with medals and certificates of participation only.

Athletes eventually develop a sense of belonging to their college teams once payment is introduced. Their esteem will be a notch higher since payment also gives them a professional feeling as they participate in college games and they get to have a share in the college’s cash rewards (Mondello, 108). In addition, the sense of belonging results in loyalty among athletes. They develop a special kind of attachment to the games such that they would spread a positive message to their friends who would wish to join college teams.

To keep a positive peer influence

People, especially the youth, are likely to influence one another into doing certain things. The influence may either be positive or negative. Paying of college athletes keeps college team members together who drive one another into reaching certain targets both academically and on the sports grounds. Athletes, through positive influence will be able to share values and ambitions with one another. For instance, instead of engaging in mischievous activities such as using of drugs, peers among athletes can talk each other into following the right path in order to achieve standards set by their role models.

While being able to surround themselves with positive peer influence, the athletes receive a coach as a bonus. The coach will be key in guiding and instilling discipline among them along with advising them on the best ways they can spend the money paid to them by the college administration. Moreover, college athletes also look up to their coaches

who help them handle their personal problems both socially, and emotionally. The coach leads the students through the path of athleticism.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it is important that college administrations become generous enough to compensate the young and growing talented athletes within their institutions. College games are as popular as they are today due to the talent displayed by college students (Yagelski, 347). Therefore, this payment shall not only be received as a reward for talent but as a solution to some of the challenges they encounter in their individual lives that requires financial attention. If colleges wish to raise their extra-curricular reputation by improving performance among their athletes, periodic monetary rewards should be adopted.
