Barbara Gorden-Lickey, Ph.D. performed cruel experiments at the University of Oregon by sewing kittens' eyes shut and making them jump into water. The purpose was to study how sight deprivation affects the brain. These inhumane practices highlight the importance of organizations like PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), founded by Ingrid E. Newkirk and Alex Pacheco in 1980. With more than 600,000 members, PETA aims to stop animal abuse in various industries such as factory farming, laboratories, fur trade, and entertainment.

PETA accomplishes its goals through education, investigations, research, rescuing animals, advocating for legislation changes, involving celebrities in social events, and taking direct action initiatives. The staggering number of animals (seventy million) being experimented on by private institutions, household product companies, cosmetic companies, government agencies, educational institutions and scientific centers emphasizes the importance of

PETA's efforts.

A protester's sign perfectly captures PETA's strong opposition to animal abuse: "Imagine having your body left to science while you're still in it." Unfortunately, despite their dedication these groups often face lack of recognition and support which leads to unnecessary pain and psychological distress inflicted upon innocent animals who possess emotions as profound as humans do.Groups such as PETA work tirelessly to protect innocent animals, just like airport customs strive to keep innocent people safe from threats like terrorism. Supporting organizations like PETA and other animal rights groups is vital in addressing the negative impacts individuals can have on society. By doing so, thousands of animals in laboratories, fur trade, and entertainment industries can greatly benefit and increase their chances of survival. Globally, an astonishing seventy million animals endure horrific acts including maiming, blinding, scalding, chemical exposure, genetic manipulation,

and killing under the pretense of science. These abhorrent practices mostly occur within research laboratories. However, thanks to the relentless efforts of PETA, several experiments conducted in labs have been stopped. An example is PETA's investigation at Boys Town National Research Hospital where kittens underwent head-cutting procedures and cats were intentionally starved for studying deafness. This inquiry led to the National Institutes of Health condemning Boys Town's animal care and use program. Additionally, it was determined by the USDA that Boys Town had violated regulations outlined in the Animal Welfare Act. Furthermore, PETA has exposed instances of animal abuse across various industries.
In a federally funded laboratory called City of Hope, only 23 out of 54 dogs survived long enough for cancer experiments to start due to negligence. This ranged from inadequate care to improper housing. The surviving dogs suffered from infections, poisoning, anesthesia overdose, and other causes. PETA strongly believes that this cruel treatment of animals is unnecessary and lacks humanity. With PETA's involvement, animals can be free from invasive and hostile acts by researchers in various industries.

One such industry where unethical treatment occurs is fur trading, which PETA has fought against. In California, a furrier was charged with cruelty after a PETA investigator filmed chinchillas being electrocuted through wires attached to their genitals - an act condemned by the American Veterinary Medical Association as it caused heart attacks while the animals were fully conscious. Additionally, PETA exposed a fur rancher who injected minks with weed killer, causing them to suffer violent seizures and agonizing deaths. Both farms were forced to stop these cruel killing methods.

The act of forcing animals to give up their fur

for personal satisfaction is comparable to how drug dealers manipulate innocent children and rob them of the moral values instilled by parents. Just like furriers forcibly take what does not belong to them (innocent minds or fur) for their desires, these drug pushers exhibit similar behavior.Fortunately, customs agencies collaborate with PETA to address the influx of drugs and cruel killing practices employed by fur traders. As a result, both humans and animals find relief from various issues they encounter. Animal abuse exists not only in laboratories or fur farms but also within homes and training schools. PETA has played a crucial role in addressing this problem, leading to significant accomplishments in preventing animal cruelty. For example, they exposed Las Vegas entertainer Bobby Berosini physically assaulting orangutans using a metal rod through an undercover video. Consequently, Berosini's captive-bred wildlife permit was revoked by the U.S. Department of the Interior, prohibiting him from trading orangutans. Additionally, PETA conducted an undercover investigation of a Florida exotic animal training school that revealed incidents where big cats were beaten with ax handles. This prompted the USDA to establish new regulations governing animal training methods. Thanks to PETA's efforts in regulating animal training techniques, pet owners can ensure their beloved animals are treated respectfully and with care. It is vital to support organizations like PETA as they combat animal cruelty effectively. By acknowledging the mistreatment of animals, people may realize the significance of supporting animal rights groups.
Various groups work as non-profit organizations and would value any information, contributions, or support they can receive. PETA's initiatives to back cruelty-free products, discourage the use of animal-made goods, and advocate for respectful treatment of

animals have resulted in substantial enhancements to their overall welfare. These modifications have granted animals an opportunity to experience a life that is less filled with stress and abuse.
