Nowadays, people value time greatly and want to avoid long waiting times. To cater to this need, we introduce a meter recharging scheme similar to how we recharge our cellphones. With this system, electricity consumers need to buy electricity before using it, receiving a "token" in exchange. This token can then be used to add units of electricity or monetary value to the meter credit.

The system aims to enable users to utilize electricity until they have credit in the form of tokens. Once the energy at credit is depleted, the power supply to the consumer is cut-off through a built-in disconnection device in the meter. This approach restricts consumption to payment and automatically disconnects the meter upon exhaustion of credit.

The project aims at practical application by using the IC-AT89S52 from the 8051 family as the basis of the device, which is essentially an energy reco

rder and controller, also known as a prepaid meter.

The Controller mechanism involves cutting off power to the consumer once the credit energy is depleted. This system requires consumers to purchase electricity before using it, and is part of debt recovery and retailing policies. Prepaid Metering helps manage bad debt levels for the Corporation, while encouraging responsible electricity consumption from consumers. Retailers can benefit from improved cash flow and reduced operating costs through avoiding meter reading expenses and decreasing bad debt rates.

Prepaid meters differ from standard credit meters in two main ways: customers must pay for electricity before consumption, and customers are more actively involved in their electricity supply. These attributes have significant implications for both electricity utilities and residential customers. Our project required us to progra

the Atmel-89S52 microcontroller, a programmable device, which we achieved using a matrix keypad to enter the recharge amount and relays to connect the digital and electrical circuit (or low voltage to high voltage circuit).

The objective of this project is to improve cash flow management for energy utilities and address billing concerns in remote or secluded areas for consumers. By adding funds to their account, users can convert them into electricity units. The system will automatically shut down when the balance reaches zero. Furthermore, our project offers an extra unit option enabling consumers to recharge their meter.
