To show how fast life slips away from the hopeless the old man then yelled until his heart gave out on him, “He lay there, suddenly struck dumb, a black heap amidst the curious. (161) This old man let life slip right past him and could do nothing to catch up. As quickly as the kid had ridden away the air was stolen right out of Piepsam’s lungs. Furthermore the moral of the story here is to live life to its full extent and not let any of it pass by unnoticed. Even if we get caught slacking a little bit, life will slip away without hesitation. Another view point would be we should look at life day by day and make the most of what is given to us every chance possible.
