Vroom, Vroom, Vroom. It's a jarring sound. We've all encountered them and experienced the acrid smoke from burnouts. We've had to navigate around broken bottles strewn across the road. Depending on our location, many of us have been tasked with clearing piles of trash from the roadside. Who are these troublemakers, these disruptors of public peace? They often identify as boy racers, but I personally regard them as road louts.
The activity known as "boy racing" would be acceptable if the individuals involved obeyed traffic laws and only drove in authorized speedway locations. Additionally, if they prioritized the well-being and safety of both themselves and others. However, recently parliament initiated the first reading of the boy racer bills. In other words, if the bill proceeds through two more readings, it will soon become legislation. This signifies that boy racing is a legitimate
...concern that society is treating with considerable seriousness, and is making significant efforts to address.
Why are these young people so enthusiastic about a "Fast and Furious" game, despite the disapproval of society? Whether it is to impress their partners, flaunt their fancy cars, test their vehicle's capabilities, or simply seek attention, many individuals engage or aspire to engage in street racing. However, regardless of their motivations, it is unacceptable when they endanger public safety.
Street racers ignore protective measures in official car competitions like "Formula One" or "Grand Prix", opting to turn public roads into their racing tracks. Such careless actions jeopardize not only their lives but also pose a threat to others. Media reports often spotlight the havoc wreaked by street racers, leading to injuries and sometimes even death. Viewing such activities as
personal pastime is both reckless and morally wrong.
In addition to its potential for danger, boy racing has a negative impact on our community, creating an unsafe and less thriving environment. It's hard not to feel intimidated by cars racing at high speeds or to have a peaceful night's sleep with the constant noise of roaring engines and blaring rap music at 90 decibels. It's no surprise that businesses struggle to attract customers when boy racers are seen parading around. Naturally, people are expressing their discontent and frustration with the behavior and self-justification of boy racers.
Yes, there are individuals who prefer not to be associated with boy racers due to their belief that they are more responsible and knowledgeable. However, if these self-proclaimed car enthusiasts drive around with loud modified exhausts, they cannot fault others for mistakenly identifying them as aggressive "boy racers". This behavior is irritating and unpleasant, leading to their frequent grouping with boy racers. Car enthusiasts should demonstrate consideration while showcasing their vehicles to avoid public criticism.
The practice of boy racing needs to be curtailed as it unjustifiably puts personal enjoyment above others' peace and safety. Legislation clearly defines speed restrictions between 50 to 70 km/h in residential zones, which must not be violated by vehicles. Therefore, it is imperative that efforts to terminate boy racing begin immediately.
