When I read the two scriptures, the first thing that I noticed is the way the scriptures described the 2 different kinds of women and to me they were the exact opposite of each other. In this paper, I will compare and contrast the two women involved. I will discuss each one of them and describe their similarities/differences. First is the woman described in Proverbs 31, she was called the virtuous woman. The ideal woman as we can say. The woman who fears God, good wife, good mother, good neighbor, hard-working, smart, obedient, patient and all other good traits that a woman could ever possess.
Most of us think that “virtuous” women are the women who stays at home, serve their husband and children, woman who does not
...work outside of the house, only does all the chores, only does what her husband says, etc. But if we look and study the scripture, a virtuous woman does not really just do house chores. A virtuous woman is a multitalented woman who can do anything for her love ones. She works hard and helps her husband in providing the needs of the family. She gets up in the morning to work and do her responsibilities; she takes care of the people that work with her.
She is dependable, people can rely on her. A virtuous woman is a strong one, a caring mother, she knows how to deal with money and use it wisely and diligently, her husband trusts in her, and she is his partner in every aspect of life. Her husband trusts her with the responsibilities, a woman that analyze
logically and comes up with good decisions. She knows how to take care of business, she is resourceful, and at the same time she has compassion to care for other people specially the needy ones. She knows how to handle life’s challenges, she has a strong conviction.
She gains respect from the entire family and people around her, they look up to her and she has a good reputation. A virtuous woman does not only takes care of other but also herself, she stays healthy and wears modest apparel. She teaches her children at home about her beliefs. A virtuous woman thinks before she says anything. She expresses her thoughts intelligently and makes sure that she does not hurt other people’s feelings. People come to her to seek some advice. If we think about all of the responsibilities and all of the great traits a virtuous woman has, we may wonder how she could handle all this and be effective at the same time.
But really, it’s because she gives everything to God first. Her priorities are determined by God’s will and not her own. She fears the Lord and she does everything to please God, and not men. She recognizes her need for God therefore she surrenders everything to Him. 1 virtuous woman serve God in every aspect of their life. we just look around and we will see them everywhere. But the good thingA virtuous woman serves God in every aspect of their life such as faith, marriage, mothering, health, service, finances, industry, home making, time and beauty.
Second is the woman described in Proverbs 7. At a first glance,
I can already tell that it is the exact opposite of a virtuous woman. Starting with how the scripture described her physical appearance. This woman was dressed as a prostitute. She tries to attract men. She wanted attention from every man around her. She treats them well and makes herself look good just to seduce them. She causes men to sin. She is an adulterer, does thing behind her husband back. She does not seem to care if she hurts other people’s feelings.
All she cares about is herself, her pleasure, and she wants to drag people to sin with her. She is loud and says inappropriate words to deceit men. She never stays home to take care of her husband instead she walks all over public areas. She is rebellious and stubborn. She does not listen or obey God, she does not fear Him! There are few similarities with the 2 women described in the scriptures. They both have a husband. They both make themselves look good in the eyes of other people. BUT there are huge differences on how they deal with it.
The virtuous woman loves her husband, the other one cheats on him. The virtuous woman makes herself look good not only physically but also mentally, spiritually and emotionally. She does it because that’s what God wants her to do. She wants people to respect her by wearing decent and modest clothes, she wants to please God. The other woman dresses up to tease men, to get their attention. A virtuous woman talks intellectually to help other people and to give them advice, she does not speak of foolishness.
She thinks about whatever she will say carefully before she says anything.
The woman in Proverbs 7 speaks lustful words, she tries to win the men by saying good things to them but behind those words is a lustful desire. We may be living in a very different time right now compared to the Bible time, but the description of these two women still applies in our today’s society. Virtuous women do exists as well as the Proverbs 7 women. It is a lot easier to find Proverbs 7 women nowadays, we just look around and we will see them everywhere. But the good thing is, there are also still a lot of women that we can call virtuous, those women who fear God, who put God first in everything that she does.
