Techniques and Interests

The course also allowed students to learn how technical skills are important in a career. Techniques such as writing a resume, an application letter, curriculum vitae, preparing for an interview, how to interview people were learned. The course clearly brought an insight on my interests in the world of business.

I discovered I could be a leader with the help the managerial skills gained from the course. Working with the class team made me realize I prefer working with people since a lot can be discussed and solved by working as a team. The course also helped me discover my interest in quantitative analysis. Motivation and values often drive people to do the best they do in whichever field in life. Therefore these two factors must be considered by any career leader.

Number one motivator is the dream of becoming financially stable and improving my finances.A successful business provides a financial and career security and besides that one can improve their lifestyle and that of their family. As a career leader and the owner of a successful business, one can manage their time well and spend time with their family and friend without being controlled.All in all, the course was a good business course that allowed me to understand the in-depth facts on how business world worldwide.

Lessons from Team activities

A lot of personal insights were gained from the course work, skills such as sensitive and tact communication and listening skills helped during

the Teamwork activity. From company research project, our team used various skills and techniques to come up with the research project. Our team leader efficiently guided the group step and stepped to provide a good company project. The team leader showed excellent leadership skills such as a good listener, being tolerant and most of all was not biased to any team member.

Despite the group members performing well, a lot of challenges such as poor management and poor communication skill were facing members. If group discussion were arranged on time and members enhanced communication, then the assignment could have been a better one that is done on time. Group work instilled in me the ability to schedule my time and accommodate other peoples’ activities into mine. It is through working as a group that I managed to learn the value of collective knowledge and social engagement.

For an efficient team in future, the group will ensure every member is assigned a role to avoid overworking others, proper time management and most all enhance communication among members. A part of learning to work as a team, the project enables most students to learn interview skills both when being interviewed and interviewing other. The Walmart documentary on the high cost of low price taught students on business ethics that is an important subject for any student. Students after watching the documentary had to use their critical thinking skills and discover issues presented in the documentary such labor code violation, discriminatory Human Resource practices and many other ethical issues.

Using my skill inventory results, very minimal adjustment will be made for me to fit in as a good

career leader.

The skill inventory approved my ability to communicate, listen and work with other in a team. For a successful career and a positive personal development, new skills will be acquired.More skills such technical skills will be a good skill to succeed in the business world and will make work easier for an individual during his or her career. A good career leader should possess excellent communication skills, oral skills, writing skills and most of all ensure sound management skills are acquired so as to provide proper leadership. The above skills will improve not only my university career but also my career outside of school. Interpersonal skills are also needed for personal and career development.

One should be self-confidence to be able to handle difficult situation and uncertain situation that one may face without any negative intimidation. A business career is an up and down career that requires one to be persistence, hardworking and most importantly a person that doesn’t give up easily. Risk management is necessary for a successful career in business and also for a good career leader; this is because of the nature of the profession itself. Risk management skills will allow one to be more innovative and experiment new ideas without being afraid of the consequences. All in all, the skill achieved during the semester course developed both my professional and personal skill.

The group discussion enforced teamwork spirit and enable me to act in a leadership capacity towards achieving my goals and target. Throughout the lesson, I manage to develop analytical skills that are important in lifetime management of risk and challenges. These have improved my personal experience and knowledge.
