Langston Hughes was viewed as very vital literacy figure in 1920. This period was referred to as “Harlem Renaissance” because many black writers had begun to emerge (Miller, Baxter, 2015). Although Langston Hughes was very young, about 24 years. He still emerged to be visible among the people who a genuine art of life. Most of Hughes work has suffered criticisms on basis that he described the black life to be unattractive. “Fine clothes to the Jews” got many critics from both white press and many literacy magazines which the Negro disliked. The Pittsburgh courier indeed at one time had a big headline on the top of the page with main aim of criticing Lanstong Hughes work.
There is Criticism which Hughes faces in his writing the fine clothes of the Jews but it can be concluded
...that the author is a representative of the Negro. The white authors hold up wrong perfections about the public. Commenting about past individuals who have reviewed Hughes work said that it is known that many people are wholly good and as well beautiful. Hoyt W. Fuller says that Hughes chose identify the black people not because they were most sophiscated or neither had they required less effort but for truth which is seen in them and also the significance in doing so. Hughes was actually inspired by his father who was humiliated by being rejected by his own people in his native land. In fact Hughes poet is more about the flight of his father on American racial segregation which makes him to approach the issue more carefully. In the poetry the people in Chicago or Washington were fired
and beaten on daily basis.
The Fine clothes of the Jew was actually disliked by many people because they failed to understand was Hughes was trying to point out in his work. Lindsay Patterson who is novelist has a believe that Hughes abused the American poetry and to some extent he was ignored due some black critisms.Hughes is described as double –edged who without shame unmasks that the black is beautiful. He has intelligence to indicate that black are able to survive under any pressure because they were removed from creative toll.
Hughes faithfully records the instances of black life and humiliations which they go through. Hughes was the first black American to get his daily bread through writing and giving public lectures. The black world reviewer in 1970 noted that who had prerogative was to determine the ranking of writers who never rated Langston Hughes but it actually determines the literacy apex among the black people. The works written by Langston Hughes usually occupies the memory of the people precisely because of her recognition to that people possess physical and spiritual growth among them. Hughes uses poetry to give an illustration that there is it not by chance that the Negro people are beautiful.
Hughes brings about variations and colorful history in his literature. Before attaining the age of twelve years he had lived in six cities in America. Hughes creative life is varied because of his joyful and honesty in his writing career. Hughes seems to engage the views in which angry men try to solve any stage of war. The well-known unity of the people speaks for many millions but seems as tricky issue to
involve in. Hughes touches many people through fictional character known as Jesse B. simple, a poor man who lives in Harlem. The character is comic and the writer turn this into advantage the simplicity of Hughe’s stories touches more about the problems and sufferings which the black society goes through.
Literature is of great use to the society as I can be used for pleasure, enlightenment and for entertainment. Literature is used to reveal political, social and thoughts of certain individuals. Hughes uses the words “the American” to give a symbol of what it means to be an American. In fact the skin colour does not matter because the country comprises many ethnic groups who work together. This is a prejudice which is practiced in New York and still exists until this time. By speakers thoughts we can get an understanding similarities between all ethnic groups which exist in America. The main focus in the poem is about the structure and the focus is brought about by the dilemma in which the concept of race is brought about. Hughes work follows Jazz style in poetry writing and the rhyme created makes one to feel as if the work is improvised. The speaker establishes the link between him and the environment which surrounds him. The writer develops dialogue in Harlem and community also feels as understood and also comforted at the same time. Hughes has greatly employed repetition to make a strong emphasis on the point he is trying to make.
The tone which the writer uses tone which is so ironical even though the language used in the poem is just straight forward and makes the poem
easy to understand. The long lines in the poem is just author’s effort in the struggle to explain the relationship of the Negro. The first voice persona is used to tell us more about black Americans plight.
Langston Hughes believes to bring change in America by making American to accept their African American community who are viewed as their immediate brothers. The poetry written by Hughes points out clearly racial prejudice among black society in America and efforts are dedicated by him to address the challenges which the society goes through. Hughes is was actually influenced by depression making his thoughts to be pessimistic and this influences him to express it his work. Hughes does not act as a spectator, infarct after witnessing the abuse of one race he reflects it in his writings. The critics about discrimination of the black America in that they are subjective to discrimination is actually the main issue pointed by Hughes. The true picture of how the black people are treated is actually brought out. I indeed the blacks are the same as other tribes and they should not be discriminated under any basis. The suffering of black American is clearly pointed out by Hughes and this is thought to institute a rapid change regarding the Americans view about the black American.
In conclusion, Langston Hughes was connected to the Harlem renaissance, becomes well known and this leads division in the poetry. The jazz poetry style is employed mostly in Hughes poems because he spend most of his times listening to blues and jazz music. Most of Hughes’ work portray the realistic life of the black and other issues which they
may be facing them. Langston Hughes’ is one of the great writer who portrays diversity of black people through writing poems, plays, short stories and novels. Most of Langston writing touches the real life situation about black Americans and they are still experienced even today.
