Bradham, born in 1866 died in 1934, who was a pharmacist in New Bern, North Carolina (Britannica, 2018). Caleb D. Bradham named his sweet cola flavor car
...bonated beverage, or as called by most people soda, Pepsi-Cola in 1898, the hope was to duplicate the success of the Coca-Cola company (Britannica, 2018). In 1902 Caleb D. Bradham incorporated the Pepsi-Cola Company, because the drink was proven to be so popular (Britannica, 2018). After many years of success, the company fell on hard time after World War I (Britannica, 2018). It was then reorganized and reincorporated on several occasion in the 1920s (Britannica, 2018). The company’s trademark and the assets were picked up by Charles G. Guth, born in 1876 died in 1948, and who is the modern Pepsi-Cola company in 1931 (Britannica, 2018). Charles G. Guth established the new Pepsi-Cola company by having a chemist formulate a better drink, setting up new bottling operations and by merchandising a successful 12-ounce bottle for
five cents (Britannica, 2018). Charles G. Guth was also the president of Loft Incorporate, which is a candy manufacturer and soda-fountain chain that was founded in 1919 (Britannica, 2018). In 1941 Pepsi-Cola merged into Loft and changed to the Pepsi-Cola company (Britannica, 2018). In the 1950s, because of an emphasis on giant advertising campaigns and sales promotions, Pepsi-Cola’s net earnings increased by 11-fold and was made a chief competitor of Coca-Cola (Britannica, 2018). The enlarged company diversified further with the purchase of three restaurant chains, Pizza Hut Inc., Taco Bell Inc, and Kentucky Fried Chicken Corp or as it is now known as KFC (Britannica, 2018). In 1997 the restaurant chains were spun off into a new and separate company called Tricon Global Restaurants Inc. (Britannica, 2018). Pepsi Co acquired the Tropicana and Dole juice brand from Seagram Company in 1998 and merge with the Quaker Oats company in 2001 to form a new division called Quaker Foods and Beverages to try to add more product that were considered healthier (Britannica, 2018).
