Although reports suggest that Forgeard was aware of the manufacturing problems as early as 2004, it wasn't until June 2005 that Airbus publicly acknowledged the issues and announced a delay in the delivery schedule. I firmly believe that Forgeard intentionally kept the delays hidden from the market in order to safeguard his position at Airbus. He allowed his self-centeredness and ego to impede the success of the A380 project, exhibiting traits contrary to those attributed to Level Five leaders by Jim Collins. Additionally, Forgeard disposed of his Airbus shares in March 2005 before a profit warning was issued in April due to production delays, despite denying any insider trading.

Following an 18-month investigation in 2008, the regulators of the French market found insider trading evidence at Airbus. Forgeard's lack of credibility as a leader was evident because history has proven that dishonesty brings distrust and weakens leadership abilities.
