The Story of the Golden Touch – Flashcards

Bacchus the merry god of vine toasted King Midas for his hospitality.

Because King Midas was so hospitable to Bacchus, Bacchus gave King Midas anything he wanted.

King Midas decided he wanted everything he touched to turn to gold.

Even though Bacchus disagreed with King Midas's choice in wishes, he granted it anyway.

When King Midas bit into a piece of meat, it turned into a nugget of gold. Then he realized that he should have thought before wishing.

Midas realized that his wonderful wish would soon starve him to death.

Once realizing his mistake, Midas threw his hands towards the heaven and cried, "I've been a greedy fool! Free me from the golden touch!"

Bacchus stood in front of King Midas and told him he had been foolish. He forgave him anyway and told him to go bathe himself in the Pactolus River to rid himself of the golden touch.
