What is Tenses?
Tenses are a key part of the English language and they play an important role in our communication. Tenses help us to express time and order events which have happened in the past, present or future. There are three main tenses: present, past and future. The present tense is used when speaking about things that are ongoing in the current moment or when giving general information. For example I am studying for my exams or Cats like to sleep . The past tense is used to talk about things that happened at a specific point in the past. This can be as simple as saying Yesterday I went shopping or more complex such as She had been working on her project for two weeks before submitting it. It’s also important to note that there are different forms of the past tense depending on how far away from now we want to refer too. These include simple, progressive, perfect and perfect progressive tenses all with their own uses. Finally the future tense helps us discuss events which will happen at some point beyond now but not necessarily set in stone yet. We use this one quite often when making plans with friends by saying something like We will meet up next weekend or talking about upcoming events such as He will be arriving tomorrow morning. In conclusion, learning how to properly use tenses is integral for effectively communicating ideas both written and verbally in English-speaking contexts and should be studied carefully by anyone who wants to become proficient in this language.
