What is Hubble Space Telescope?
The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) is a space telescope that was launched into low Earth orbit in 1990. It is named after astronomer Edwin Hubble and is one of the most important astronomy observatories ever built. The HST has allowed us to explore the universe with unprecedented detail, revealing the age, size, and composition of distant galaxies. It has also been used to discover new planets, measure distances between stars, understand black holes, and probe some of the fundamental mysteries of our existence.The HST was designed as a joint project between NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA). It orbits at an altitude of approximately 600 kilometers above Earth’s surface. Its large 2.4-meter mirror collects light from distant galaxies and other astronomical objects over a wide area of sky. The telescope can observe objects that are up to 13 billion light years away. This gives scientists a unique window into understanding the history and evolution of our universe dating back to shortly after its birth in the Big Bang over 13 billion years ago. The Hubble Space Telescope has revolutionized astrophysics since its launch in 1990 by providing us with stunning images and observations about distant galaxies which we would otherwise never have seen or known about. With its ability to observe deep space phenomena in unprecedented detail, it has enabled humanity to make enormous strides forward in our understanding of how galaxies form and evolve across cosmic time scales – from our own Milky Way galaxy all the way out beyond 13 billion light years away. The data collected by HST have also provided us with invaluable insights into dark energy – one of nature’s greatest mysteries – as well as furthering scientific knowledge on planetary systems around other stars throughout our galaxy and beyond. In short, without Hubble Space Telescope we would be living in an astronomically blind world; unable to answer many questions about ourselves or see ourselves from outside this planet for what we truly are partakers in an incredible grandeur that spans billions upon billions of kilometres across interstellar voids.
