What is Heart Rate And Rhythm?
Heart rate and rhythm are two important indicators of cardiovascular health. The heart rate is the number of times a person’s heart beats per minute, while the rhythm refers to the regularity of these beats. Both can be affected by numerous factors that include lifestyle, activity level, medications, and underlying health conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes.The average resting heart rate in adults is 60-100 beats per minute (bpm). A person’s age and fitness level can affect their resting heart rate; for example, younger individuals tend to have faster resting rates than older individuals. In general, higher intensity activities require a higher working heart rate; however, this varies from person to person. Certain medications or medical conditions can also impact an individual’s normal heart rate and rhythm. For example, an arrhythmia is when a person’s heartbeat becomes irregular or too slow or fast; this type of abnormal rhythm often requires medical attention in order to restore normal functioning.The main risk factors associated with an abnormal heart rate and/or rhythm are poor diet and lack of physical activity; both contribute to cardiovascular disease which can increase the risk for complications such as stroke or even death if left untreated. Maintaining a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables and exercising regularly can help keep one’s cardiovascular system healthy by reducing cholesterol levels, improving blood pressure, decreasing body fat percentage, increasing muscle mass all which protect against cardiac abnormalities such as atrial fibrillation (AFib). In addition to lifestyle changes there are other measures that may help improve one’s cardiac health such as avoiding smoking cigarettes or using recreational drugs like cocaine which significantly increases one’s risk for AFib due its stimulant effect on the body’s nervous system. Medications may also be prescribed by a doctor if needed depending on the underlying cause for an abnormal cardiac rhythm although it should not replace lifestyle modifications since they only provide temporary relief without addressing underlying issues that need attention in order achieve long lasting results.
