What is General Chemistry?
General Chemistry is a branch of chemistry that deals with the composition, structure and properties of matter. It studies how different substances interact and change when exposed to different conditions. It also covers the principles governing chemical reactions and provides a foundation for studying more specific branches of chemistry such as organic or biochemistry.Topics covered in General Chemistry include atomic structure, states of matter, chemical bonding, properties of solutions, acids and bases, kinetics and thermodynamics. In addition to these topics, Basic Chemistry covers areas such as the periodic table of elements; the properties of elements; nomenclature; stoichiometry; reaction rates; equilibrium constants; phase diagrams; electrochemistry; molecular orbital theory; spectroscopy; radiosynthesis and environmental chemistry. General Chemistry is an important subject for anyone who wishes to pursue further studies in any field related to science. It also serves as an excellent refresher course for those who are already working in some scientific-related fields but may have forgotten much of what they learned from their introductory courses in college years ago. Furthermore, it can introduce students to basic laboratory techniques which will be essential for more advanced classes such as organic or biochemistry labs that require precise measurements and use complicated instruments like NMR spectrometers or HPLC systems. Today General Chemistry is not just limited to traditional lectures but can also be found online where students can take self-paced courses at their own convenience without having to attend physical classrooms or laboratories.
