What is Franco Prussian War?
The Franco-Prussian War was a conflict between France and Prussia, part of the larger German Empire, which lasted from July 19th, 1870 to May 10th, 1871. The conflict began when war was declared by Prussia on France. The war had long-lasting political consequences both for France and other European nations. For Prussia, the war was very successful in terms of military strategy and helped to create a unified Germany that would become a major power in Europe. In addition to this, the victory over France bolstered confidence among German citizens and helped to legitimize Prussian hegemony in Europe as well as its claims for dominance within the German Empire. For France, however, the Franco-Prussian War resulted in crushing defeat at the hands of its neighbor. This resulted in significant losses of territory and influence within Europe for France. As a result of these losses and humiliation suffered at the hands of Prussia during this conflict, resentment towards Germany remained strong throughout much of French history up until World War II when French animosity towards Germany again came to a head during occupation by Nazi forces from 1940-1944. In addition to political consequences for both countries involved in this conflict, there were also social implications felt across Europe due to this event. The use of new technologies such as breech loading rifles (which allowed troops to fire more quickly) had an effect on how wars were fought moving forward with many armies adopting these new technologies after seeing their effectiveness during this conflict while other changes such as increased numbers or conscription saw broader social changes take place due to mobilization efforts undertaken by governments as they prepared their militaries for battle against each other or against outside enemies such as those seen during conflicts like World War I & II or even today’s Global War On Terror campaigns being waged across many countries worldwide.
