What is Ergonomics?
Ergonomics is the science of designing and arranging physical environment, products, and tasks to be used in a safe and efficient manner. It is based on the principle that all design should take into consideration the capabilities and limitations of people in order to ensure maximum safety, comfort, efficiency and satisfaction. Ergonomics has become increasingly important in modern life as it helps reduce accidents, fatigue and stress while improving productivity.Ergonomics covers a wide range of topics such as workplace layout, furniture design, lighting systems, computer use/interaction with technology and other related areas. It can also be applied to industries such as manufacturing or engineering where it helps improve the performance of machines or processes by taking into account human capabilities. Additionally, ergonomics is being used increasingly in helping people with disabilities or special needs adapt better to their environment by making changes that make their environment more accessible for them. The main goal of ergonomic design is to create an environment that promotes safety and efficiency for workers while at the same time providing comfort for them. This means making sure all equipment is designed properly so it is easy for people to use without causing any harm or discomfort; ensuring that workers have proper posture when sitting down; providing adequate lighting so workers can see clearly; reducing noise levels as much as possible; ensuring temperature control; and minimizing distractions from other sources such as music or television sets. In addition, ergonomic designs should also consider accessibility issues such as wheelchair ramps or elevators if needed.Another important aspect of ergonomics involves using biomechanical principles when designing workstations or tools so they are easier to use without causing any harm or discomfort. This includes making sure tools have comfortable handles that allow users a natural grip position without putting too much strain on their wrists; creating chairs with adjustable heights so users can find a comfortable sitting position; using footrests that help keep feet off the floor while typing; providing adjustable keyboards so users can find an ideal typing position without having to strain their arms too much; using wrist rests which help reduce pressure on wrists while typing on computer keyboards etc. All these measures help reduce fatigue for workers thus increasing productivity levels at work spaces. Overall ergonomics plays an important role in improving human performance both at home and work spaces by taking into account individual’s capabilities & limitations thus helping increase safety & comfort level which eventually leads to increased productivity & satisfaction.
