What is End Stage Renal Disease?
End stage renal disease (ESRD) is a serious, life-threatening condition that occurs when the kidneys are no longer able to filter waste and toxins from the blood. It can lead to other serious conditions such as heart disease, stroke, infections, and anemia. ESRD requires dialysis or a kidney transplant for survival. The exact cause of ESRD varies depending on the person but it’s often linked to chronic illnesses like diabetes, hypertension and lupus. Genetics may also play a role in some cases. In addition, damage caused by certain medications or environmental pollutants may contribute to the development of this condition. Regardless of the source, ESRD eventually reaches a point where dialysis or a transplant is necessary for continued survival.Dialysis uses machines called dialyzers to cleanse and purify blood by removing fluids, electrolytes and wastes from it while restoring specific levels of chemicals needed by the body like sodium bicarbonate which helps neutralize acidity in your blood stream. Additionally dialyzer filters out small particles that cannot be removed through normal function kidneys perform such as filtering proteins from urine which prevents them from entering into circulation in our bloodstream which if left untreated could cause further health problems including death due to complications with organs being unable to work properly because of elevated protein levels in their system Kidney transplants involve surgically replacing your failed kidneys with those donated from another person who has recently passed away or someone still alive who chooses to donate one of their own healthy kidneys living donor transplantation . The success rate for these operations is very high however there are risks involved both short term post op complications as well as long-term effects associated with taking immunosuppressant drugs required after surgery so that body doesn’t reject newly inserted organ/tissue In conclusion end stage renal disease is not only fatal without treatment but also carries some significant risks with any type of treatment option chosen whether its regular hemodialysis sessions at home/clinic twice per week or going through major operation via kidney transplantation although they both have been successful means saving lives especially when patient follows doctor’s orders carefully following medication regimen given Given all this information having knowledge about importance good lifestyle choices eating habits physical activity etc can help reduce chances developing ESRD significantly thus ensuring healthier future generations come.
