What is Abdomen?
The abdomen is a part of the body located between the chest and pelvis. It contains vital organs such as the stomach, liver, intestines, kidneys and bladder. Each of these organs has an important role in keeping us healthy and functioning properly. The abdominal cavity houses many of our internal body parts that help to keep us alive and functioning. The stomach is responsible for breaking down food into smaller pieces so that it can be digested by the intestines. The liver helps to process nutrients from food as well as filter out toxins from the blood stream. The small intestine helps to further break down food through absorption of important vitamins, minerals and other nutrients needed for life. Finally, the large intestine is responsible for removing waste material from our bodies via elimination. There are also several muscles in the abdomen which help with movement such as breathing or lifting heavy objects. These muscles work together with other parts of your body like your back or legs to make sure you are able to move properly without strain or pain. Abdominal pain can be caused by any number of things including trapped gas bubbles in your digestive system, indigestion, constipation or even an infection in one of your organs like appendicitis or gallbladder disease. If you experience severe abdominal pain that does not go away after a few minutes it’s important to see a doctor right away as these issues can be quite serious if left untreated for too long. Overall, our abdoomen plays an incredibly important role in keeping us healthy and functioning properly.
