Social justice and community service are hugely emphasized. Students go to bigger state schools in region to attend football games on weekends. Common complaint: unhealthy cafeteria food.

Beaches: 3 or 4 within an hour's drive; Gorgeous campus - except one section of it that is a little run down/old; Weather is awesome during school year; too hot during summer

Mobile, AL; Downtown: somewhat tired and run down but has a lot of history, and has potential; Midtown: huge, old, Civil War-era houses, plus apartments for young professionals; Closer to campus: malls, then a pleasant, safe-seeming residential neighborhood up on the hill; Mobile established Mardi Gras celebration before New Orleans did, but N.O. did it on a grander scale. Mobile still has a 2.5 week M.G. celebration that they are proud of.; Relatively cheap cost of living, i.e., can rent a 3 BR house for about 1,000/month
