Webster's definition states that sexism involves prejudice, stereotypes, and discrimination against women. Nevertheless, I contend that sexism is ineffective and not the underlying cause of women's discrimination. In my viewpoint, if women perceive unfair treatment, it is due to their perceived inability to attain specific goals.
Traditionally, men are expected to be providers and leaders within their families, while women are expected to possess nurturing and caring qualities. Henceforth, the notion of women encountering discrimination appears illogical.
In 2017, the Institute For Women's Policy Research conducted a study on median weekly earnings and gender earnings ratio among full-time workers. The study revealed a $220 difference in earnings between men and women. Both men and women are impacted by sexism, resulting in the exclusion of women from certain environments. However, men also face their own forms of exclusion. To combat this issue, it is crucial to encourage equal opportunities for both genders and set forth guidelines to address discrimination. Personally, I do not see gender discrimination as an inherent issue. For example, if a man is chosen over a woman for a job, it could be based on qualifications, effort, or even personal comfort. Some companies may currently prefer hiring only one gender due to concerns surrounding sexual abuse controversies.
The issue of sexism and gender discrimination is brought up in the discussion. Some argue for protesting equal pay, ending "rape culture," and creating a safe environment for individuals to share their non-consensual
sexual experiences. However, it is important to differentiate between "rape culture" and sexism, as stated by Fionola Meredith from The Guardian: "Making a sexist joke is different from sexually assaulting someone." Although I have not personally experienced sexism and my viewpoint on the matter is still developing, it remains a significant problem that requires attention. One possible solution is to provide equal opportunities for everyone while also establishing expectations for behavior across genders. Resolving sexism also involves mutual respect for boundaries between genders, and considering the perspective of the opposite gender can offer insight into finding the most suitable approach.
Regardless of their faith, individuals may also encounter these experiences. It should be emphasized that members of a specific faith do not condone sexism or any form of discrimination. Additionally, those affiliated with the church perceive every person as being made in God's likeness, irrespective of gender. Consequently, we are all regarded as possessing an untainted soul.
