Reaction Paper
For my assignment, I had to interview one human services/criminal justice professional from the public sector and one from the non-profit sector. This task allowed me to gain insights about my field from experienced individuals. One of my interviewees shared that while classroom learning has its benefits, practical experience is crucial. I was fortunate to interview a Pulaski county probation officer and a criminal defense attorney named Mr. Paul Woods.
Having 20 years of experience in his field and finding joy in assisting young individuals, Mr. Woods acquired his education from Wiley College. Furthermore, he obtained numerous certificates in different domains including mental health.
Woods is responsible for managing various case loads of delinquents, accessing services for them, ensuring school attendance, conducting random drug screenings

Witnessing delinquents graduate high school and start a new life is among the most rewarding aspects of the job, whose purpose is to prevent and rehabilitate them. Challenges include sub-culture and gang behavior, particularly among young African American males who are influenced to believe that gang life is the way to go. Although helpful, Woods learned that most of what he learned from his book was not part of his actual experiences in the field.
According to Woods, it is his belief that book writers do not personally encounter certain subjects they write about, but hire researchers to gather necessary data.
