Introduction

Prescription drug abuse can be best defined as when someone takes drugs that do not belong to them or takes drugs rather in a wrong way as opposed to when a doctor or physician prescribed with intentions of getting high. Drug abuse is a term that means that a person either takes more quantity or less quantity of drugs that had been subscribed or taking drug rather with intention of getting high rather than for medication purposes. Misuse of drugs is one someone takes drug not for what was meant for and finally overdose is when someone takes more quantity of drugs prescribed to them by doctor or physician (Birnbaum at el,. 2011). A good example is a kid suffering from alcohol addiction when its mother was using alcohol during pregnancy. This can be shown when peer pressure gets better of youth who have low morals, weak personally and have weak religious backgrounds and finally drug abuse and addiction can be as a result of other factors that is co factors occurring causing. This can be best illustrated by mental illness which can make all sundry abuse drugs even though they knew clearly the dire and grave consequences of the same.

Symptoms of drug abuse are so diverse depending on which particular drug one has taken. Generally there are signs that are general. Socially withdrawal, low productivity at work, lack of concentration, convulsion inn some serious narcotic intake, depression, suicidal feelings, hopelessness, mental illness which is a serious disease of the brain, physical deterioration that is loss of weight, reddening of eyes and tubby cheeks and lack of appetite. It should be noted that these symptoms depend on particular drug that one has taken. Abuse of hard drugs such cocaine, marijuana, heroin and opium have adverse symptoms characterized by adverse effects of illusions. These are very dangerous as one can commit suicide or murder or commit serious crimes whereas intake of alcohol, cigarate, ghat and sniffing of glue have short time symptoms which can be avoided at its early stages (Lankenau at el,. 2012).
