-Sequence of reflex development to volunary control CNS damage -CNS damage resulted in abnormal muscle tone -Muscle tone maintained by CNS: CNS damage results in hypotonicity or hypertonicity

-Provide sensory stimuli to normalize muscle tone: to facilitate, use ice, brush, joint compression, quick stretch, tapping. To inhibit, use neutral warmth, rhythmic movement -Treatment begins at client's current developmental level and progresses through normal sequence of motor development -Focus attention on a meaningful activity -Practice repetition allows reinforcement of learning

-People who have a stroke, demonstrate reflexes and early levels of motor development -There are stereotypical limb movement patterns (synergies)

-for people with hemiplegia -elicit reflex synergies and move through normal development -Use sensory stimulation to facillitate movement -Encourages volitional movement over stimulation -Use synergies in functional activities

-Flaccidity -Movement synergies begin to appear -Voluntary control of synergies -Voluntary movement deviating from synergies -Voluntary independence from synergies -Voluntary isolated movement (near-normal coordination)

Developed NDT approach in which they moved the clients limbs so they could passively experience normal movement patterns
