Judo originated from Japan and was created by Dr. Kano Jigoro, who dealt with bullying from peers and family members due to his weak physical build. The martial art was established as a means for Dr. Kano to overcome his weakness.
Kano began his training in Jiu Jitsu, the martial art originating from Brazil. Once a student of Fukuda Hachinosuke, who was also the teacher of Keiko Fukuda, a renowned female Judoka. Keiko currently holds the highest ranking for female Judoka from both the Kodokan Institute, an esteemed Judo teaching organization and the United States Judo Federation. Dr. Kano Jigoro, founder of the Kodokan Institute, was initially accepted as a student by Hachinosuke.
Kodokan, which is situated in Tokyo, is a public building that embodies the literal translation of its name: "a place to teach or spread the knowledge." Apart from conducting Judo
...classes for amateurs, this institute also offers courses for those who aspire to become masters in this art. Their programs cater to two groups of individuals: novices and those keen on honing their Judo skills.
The Kodokan Institute is a renowned Judo teaching institution that ranks its practitioners. The institute's popularity has grown significantly since it started with nine students, and it currently attracts people from all over the world who register to receive their ranking. The institute has produced some of the best-known Judo practitioners, such as Keiko Fukuda, Mitsuo Maeda, Kyuzo Mifune, Masahiko Kimura, Anton Geesink, Yasuhiro Yamashita, Neil Adams, Gene LeBell, Hidehiko Yoshida, Kosei Inoue, and Minoru Mochizuki.
Keiko Fukuda holds the distinguished honor of being the sole female Judoka possessing a 9th Dan ranking - which serves as an indicato
of the stage and proficiency of Judo practitioners in Japan, marked by the distinct color of belt presented to them. Additionally, she has been a student under Dr.'s tutelage.
Keiko Fukuda is the lone surviving follower of Kano Jigoro and was granted the “red belt” by the United States of Judo Federation. Among the Kodokans who were bestowed with the tenth Dan ranking, some men include Yamashita Yoshiaki, Hajime Isogai, Hidekazu Nagaoka, Kyuzo Mifune (who is considered one of the best after Dr. Kano Jigoro), Kunisaburo Iizuka, Kaichiro Samura, Shotaro Tabata, Kotaro Okano, Matsutaro Shoriki, Shozo Nakano, Tamio Kurihara, Sumiyuki Kotani, Ichiro Abe and Toshiro Daigo (also known as Mr. Kodokan).
