Although Jiu-Jitsu has a long history in Brazil, it gained widespread recognition through its use in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in the United States. Royce Gracie demonstrated its effectiveness in countering opponents, resulting in quick finishes that captivated audiences and generated an interest in studying this martial art. Jiu-Jitsu, which originated from Brazil, emphasizes ground techniques such as grappling that require less physical strength and power from practitioners.

Jiu-Jitsu offers many techniques that allow a specialist weighing less than 100 lbs to defeat a 2-3 times heavier opponent using a submission lock, all from the ground. These techniques include a variety of choke holds, arm locks, leg locks, and more.
