This course has exposed me to different ideas and perceptions that I never expected. First, I have learned that religion is a view or a belief carried by an individual about human life, the universe and God. I have also learned that Islam as a religion has the largest number of following in western world with 1.6 billion followers worldwide. Personally, I never knew that the United States alone has 7-8 million followers, but through the course, I ascertain that. Every region has a supreme God whom they believe and trusts in. In this case, I have understood that God is a supreme being, the creator and ruler of the universe.

People believe differently, for example, I have learned that there are individuals who believe in more than one God or live as non-believers based on the society perception of religion. Lastly, I have learn

ed that individuals can acquire the reality of God through three main channels. These includes using logical inferences which entail reasoning and making a conclusion. Secondly, one can rely on the expert testimony of credible witness or application of five senses.

Furthermore, I have learnt that God reveals himself to humanity through various means. Some of these include the creation and everything on earth, revelations though some selected individuals such as prophets or through the innate nature of each individual on earth. Also, I have learned that different people use several names to refer to God, but God is one and Unique.

Muslims refer to their God as Allah; they consider him as the most merciful, compassionate and forgiving. Also, after going through the course, I now understand that different challenges we face i

the society are a sign to reflect God’s existence and active role in our lives. In that sense, I believe that God brings in challenges so that he can show his power on everything in the universe.

Back then, I wondered how everything on the earth came to be. But after pursuing the course, I have learnt all about creation and the purpose of forming the universe. For instance, I have discovered that the creation process took six main stages. Also, I have noted that they are arranged in a chronological manner that also shows how God places value on the human being. For example, I have understood that the universe was the first to be created, followed by angels and Jinn, preparing the earth, creating animals and plants and finally creating the human life.

Based on this, I think that the quality of life lived on earth is based on how well an individual utilizes the resources given by God when creating the universe. That is emotional (believing in God), and physical performance equals a quality living. Therefore, I think that one should believe in God and at the same time work hard to have a better life on earth.

Also, I have learnt that in the Muslim religion, Tawheed refers to the oneness of God. In essence, I have come to understand that Tawheed basically means the realization of God as the giver and protector of life. More important, I have learnt that it is a conditional rule to obey and trust in God as he is the source of power. It serves as a foundation to create morality and social behavior.

Based on what I have

learned, I feel that Tawheed requires individuals to appreciate each other including friends, science, wealth and family members. No one should encourage people to worship them. That is, no other god other than Allah the creator and protector of the universe. Men and women are expected to honor Allah and follow his commands. Personally, I feel that every follower should be faithful and humble before the eyes of Allah.

The Islamic religion is placed on six primary pillars or tenets which include Allah, Angel, Books, Messengers, life after death and divine decree. But, I think that Allah is the first and central part of the belief system in the Islamic religion. Also, I have learnt that to qualify fully with the remaining articles of faith, a follower is expected to know and understand Allah’s Guidance. That is, understanding the rule of worship and honoring Allah in all means.

After going through the Coursework, I can now confirm that God is so gracious. He sends his guidance to humanity through prophets, angels and books such as the Quran. More importantly, God is ever just and has natural wisdom that shows the quality and purpose of life. God has mercy for all and his infinite powers and eternal knowledge about everyone and everything in the universe. Therefore, I believe that God will never harm anyone as he has mercy and ever forgiving.

Variously, I have learnt that every suffering or natural disaster that occurs in the world happens by the will of God. Everything happens as a will of God and as a sign to make human strive. Similarly, I contemplate that suffering or challenges in life act as a

lesson, test and reminder that God exists. I think all these natural disasters and challenges occur to test the depth of belief that people have to God.

Personally, I thought that disasters are accidents, but I know understand the cause of these disasters. For example, I think that some of the disasters we experience such as earthquakes or tsunami are just a natural way of showing that God has control over nature. Initially, I learnt that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the servant through which Muslims reach their God. I think that Muhammad represents Jesus in the Christian religion. Am certain that Islam followers in the world worship Allah through the words of Prophet Muhammad. After going through the course I now know that he lived a life full of hardships, sacrifices to act as a role model for the people on earth. His messages and information reflect the rule of Allah on his people.

Variously, I have learnt that Quran is the only holy book that is followed by Muslims. Through the holy book, the followers of Prophet Muhammad receive their revelation. Revelation may be presented through sounds or in the form of human being. Also, I have learnt that the Quran is divided into verses and chapters which depend on the will of Allah to his people. In addition to Quran, I have heard about the five pillars that are obligatory and help in training them to be obedient to Allah as they strive to achieve their goals in life. These components include Fasting of Ramadhan, daily prayers, Testimony of faith, Obligatory Charity and Hajj. I think that the five pillars are equivalent

to the Ten Commandments of the Christianity religion.

Most importantly, I have learnt that Islam religion values the role and place of women in the society. For instance, women are given equity and equality in all social related matters. Prophet Muhammad is considered a dedicated women’s right advocate through his advocacy of high morality in the society, protection of women rights and balanced roles and responsibility in the society. Personally, I have experienced how Muslims respect and protect their wives based on the advice and empowerment given by Prophet Muhammad. But, due to the patriarchal system, some roles are different between men and women. For example, men are considered as breadwinners while women as seen as reflected home nurturers.

Muslims life is guarded by Islamic Law or Shariah that carries the beliefs and actions of the believers. The law provides a prioritization structure that helps believers in pushing on with daily life events. In essence, I have learnt the Shariah Law governs the Muslim life in a systematic manner defining what obedience and the moral value of the society is. Lastly, Islamic law makes life complete as it protects the whole society. Personally, I feel that the discipline observed by Muslims is originating from the Islamic Law.
Variously, I have learnt that Islamic religion is wholly affected modernity. Some of these factors influencing Modernity issues include; Pluralism, Feminism, Democracy, Secularism and Intellectualism. In essence, these are factors that followers should check to protect their belief and faith in Allah.

Lastly, I have learnt that Islamic History is founded on four main periods. These include the Prophet Muhammad’s time, the four rightly guided Caliphs, the Caliphate and dynasties and the

Kingdoms and contemporary times. All these periods provide the basis through which justice and faith are maintained among the Islamic followers. Variously, I have noted that there is a difference between being an Arab and being a Muslim. The differentiation is brought about by culture, Muslims are followers of Islam and have great value to family, religion, culture and belief.

Personally, the course has exposed me to great information about Islam in terms ideas, culture and life. According to the resources, I now understand that Allah is the creator and protector of the universe. Secondly, every gender is equal in the hands of God with Prophet Muhammad as the advocator of Equality. I think Islam is one religion that has deep rooted following in the western countries based on the statistics presented. Also, I have learnt that for an individual to fully enroll and be part of the movement, he or she must follow the rules of Prophet Muhammad as presented in the Quran. Variously, they must follow the pillars of faith which are represented by having trust and faith in Allah. In essence, the course was a great eye opener to Islam as a religion.
