For this task, I will focus on love songs sung by female artists. The first song I have chosen is 'Wind beneath my wings', a widely recognized piece in the Western country genre.
The piano plays a slow romantic tune and creates the mood of the piece through various chords and a slow tempo. The tone is soft and melodic, allowing for dynamic expression while singing. The chorus includes a key change that adds a dramatic feel, emphasizing the theme of love. This led to the desire to express more emotion during performance. While I initially struggled to adapt to the key change between verses and chorus, ultimately I felt that I performed the song well.
While performing, I sang the second verse followed by the chorus of a song, and I felt more motivated to successfully execute the key cha
...nge. In addition to this, I presented two other songs that centered around the theme of love, which were 'How do I live' by Diane Warren and 'Hero' by Mariah Carey and Walter Afanasieff. Although I believe I sang 'How do I live' decently, I acknowledge that there were opportunities for improvement.
I should have practiced the higher note in the chorus of this song more to feel more comfortable performing it. The song has many key changes and smooth melodies with slow tempos, making it complex yet effective when sung. Additionally, my rendition of "Hero," accompanied by piano, was successful due to the fitting style of the song.
The song's success was strengthened by the different key changes used. All three songs share a common mood and express a range of emotions and feelings. 'How do
live' depicts a woman conveying the notion that she cannot endure without her significant other. In 'Wind beneath my wings', a woman looks back on a pivotal point in her life and acknowledges those who provided love and support. Similarly, in 'Hero', a woman expresses love for her 'Hero'.
Despite their different historical contexts, all of these songs have a common theme of love and are performed at a slow tempo. This allows for greater vocal impact and control of breathing while singing. Each song also features a key change in the chorus to highlight the genre. Additionally, all three songs are accompanied by piano. However, 'How do I live' and 'Wind beneath my wings' feature longer notes which add complementary dynamics to the pieces.
'Hero', 'Wind beneath my wings' and 'How do I live' were songs I performed, each with distinct characteristics. 'Hero' had longer verses compared to the other two pieces, while 'Wind beneath my wings' had the shortest. Additionally, 'How do I live' had a faster rhythm than the other two. Despite being slightly slower-paced, 'Wind beneath my wings' was effective due to its individual melody which sustained throughout the entire song. The piano accompaniment also added to the impact, with strong chords being used to express dramatic emotions.
The composers of the three songs included a message about love in each one, indicating that they were written with passion and intention. These messages may have been influenced by personal experiences or observations of others. Despite their varying origins, all three songs share a common theme of love. During my performance, I focused on imbuing the pieces with emotions of tenderness and confidence, which were
further enhanced by the accompanying piano accompaniment.
Although I achieved overall success by keeping a consistent pace, I discovered that controlling my breathing is crucial for each performance. To enhance my pieces, I could incorporate additional instruments like a drum kit for added impact, or a guitar or violin for added emotional expression.
