Improving New York State’s Energy Efficiency Essay Example
Basically, improving the energy efficiency is a smart investment to any state government. An appropriate state’s energy policy is the one that provides a variety of residential programs intended to help residents pinpoint areas where their home environments are driving up energy costs. Such enhancements can lead to a healthier, more comfortable home. It is notable that New York’s state government is on the frontline in terms of improving energy efficiency. The energy policy is quite remarkable but some few improvements can make it more exceptional.
The best way to increase energy efficiency in New York State is by introducing tariff based programs. Ideally, tariff based programs require utility commission to approve a charge that customers may at their own accord assume in order to pay for eligible efficiency measures on their homes. For instance, a resident might install hi
...ghly efficient lighting system. Rather than paying the utility back via loan outlays, the resident pays the utility through the charge approved by the utility commission. This tariff based charge is connected to the electric meter so that if the resident moves to another place, the new resident becomes accountable for the charges. This program will provide the residents with an instant cash positive position, hence increasing energy efficiency. Furthermore, tariff based programs have proved to be effective in states such as Kansas, Hawaii and New Hampshire(Liu et al 116).
As New York State increasingly identify the impacts of energy efficiency as a resource, a highly-skilled and trained workforce will be needed to control and implement efficiency programs. The best way to facilitate this is through regular training programs. Enhancement of energy workforce programs will lead to
robust industry that will transfer wealth to its citizens. Besides, the training programs will increase the clean energy workers for “shovel-ready” tasks and a promising green economy (Liu et al 134). It may be significant for the liable agencies to recognize the role they play in deploying each energy efficiency approach and collaborate with other entities responsible for implementation.
