The start of a human's day involves using various technological inventions created by humans. This includes using a toothbrush for brushing teeth and geysers to heat water. The aeroplane, automobile, and computer are some of the biggest technological inventions made by humans. Although these inventions may not showcase intelligence, they reveal a lot about human laziness, as Mark Kennedy once said. With that being said, I, Abhinav Sharma, am here to present my viewpoint on the topic "Humans are the slaves of technology" in favor of the motion.
Technology refers to a body of knowledge that is used to create tools, develop skills, and extract or collect materials. This knowledge is generated by innovative individuals who are creative in nature. However, a problem arises when the majority of humans become dependent on the minority who develop technology to solve specific problems. As a result, techn
...ology is overused without a clear understanding of its intended purpose, leading us to become slaves to this technology.
In earlier times, our predecessors utilized their cognitive capacities for computations; however, calculators have now become the favored tool. Even in educational settings, we depend on calculators rather than mental calculations when presenting tables. This dependence on technology has made us subordinate to its influence.
Across the course of history, technology has played a crucial part in molding our lives and has had a deep effect on individuals. The Harrapan civilization serves as an excellent illustration of how technology was intelligently employed in ancient eras.
Technology has a significant impact on our lives, with implications that are hard to fully grasp. These rapid and unprecedented changes can affect people's feelings of safety, health, and happiness. A
survey by a social organization in the United States found that 90% of individuals aged 15 to 64 believe that not having electronic devices would cause unimaginable inconveniences and severe consequences. This shows how much people rely on these technologies and experience major disruption when they are unavailable, even causing irritation.
Throughout history, people have always sought better ways to fulfill their needs and meet their expectations. However, they have failed to recognize the gradual reliance on technology. In today's 21st century society, technology has shifted from being a luxury to a requirement. In many countries, televisions were once unfamiliar just fifty years ago; but now even poor households own them. In the past, cars represented wealth and only the rich could afford them. Nowadays, cars serve as transportation for everyone.
Humanity often fails to acknowledge the extent of technology's infiltration and control in various aspects of our lives, including healthcare, caregiving, education, and leisure activities. Take the simple act of making breakfast as an example. In the past, our grandmothers would manually cook food on chulahas and wash clothes by hand. Nowadays, we can effortlessly press a few buttons and have machines perform these tasks within moments. However, despite having the ability to circle the globe in an hour, we easily become frustrated when our mobile phones or computers malfunction. This demonstrates how enslaved we have become to technology. Undeniably, scientific and technological progress greatly enhances productivity in industries and agriculture. When discussing farming and manufacturing today, tractors and harvesters come to mind instead of bullock carts. We heavily rely on technology in every aspect of our lives that even a machine malfunctioning can bring an
entire industry operation to a halt. The benefits brought by scientific technology have encouraged us to depend on it extensively, leading to technology assuming dominance over human existence by providing opportunities for comprehensive development. It is inevitable that future societies will be completely dictated by scientific technology. In the past, traditional mail or carrier pigeons were used for sending letters. However, nowadays we use SMS messages and emails for communication.
The dependence on technology has resulted in people being controlled by it. For instance, instead of paying attention to their child while walking, individuals are engrossed in phone conversations. Similarly, even during social gatherings, they continuously check their text messages. This situation reminds me of Elbert Hubbard's quote: "While one machine can replace fifty ordinary men, no machine can replace an exceptional individual." Thank you and enjoy your day!
