In Linda Hirshman's article "Homeward Bound," she writes about "elite" women who are letting their careers "slide" to tend the home necessities. She also mentions that the big reason behind this is that society believes that it is traditional for the women to be caretakers rather than the men.She says that many more women are attending universities than men are.
Linda then mentions, that women are working part time but aren't working the careers they worked so hard for. Linda argues that "Choice Feminism" is not much of a choice but a "stall" in feminism. She says that feminism needs to go back to the way it was when it first started off. She also gives steps on how "choice feminism" can change. One of the steps Linda advices is that the new generation should try and make the change.
To s
...um up her article she writes about why making the change is important and how it can be helpful to woman.
Opinion columnist, David Brooks, argues against Linda Hirshman in his editorial piece "The Year of Domesticity." David Brooks writes on why he thinks Linda Hirshman is incredibly wrong. He mentions human flourishing and questions the readers to think back to their most memorable memories and if they were while at the office or, time spent with family.
Brooks brings up the issue that the reason why pop music has changed and is now about abandonment is because these song writers were abounded as kids and if women follow the steps Linda mentions, then they are then abandoning their children. To conclude his editorial piece he says that the problem isn't the women who stay home with childre
but the men that spend more time working rather than spending time with family.
Linda Hirshman has the key to change "choice feminism." Some of the proposals she presents may be selfish, but sometimes being selfish is what works out out best to achieve what is needed to.
