answer
2. What is textual criticism? How is it possible to have a high view of the authority of Scripture and a positive view of textual criticism at the same time?
question
A Bible translation is the Bible translated into the language of people of whatever language they speak. Translation is not a simple exercise because it takes time to figure out how to put down God's True Word into the language spoken by people all over the world in their native tongue. 1.The first thing to know about selecting a Bible is that there is a big difference between the Bible version or translation and the format used by publishers to market the Bible. 2. A second obstacle is the KJV's use of archaic English words and phrases. In addition to the use of obsolete terms such as "aforetime," "must needs," "howbeit," "holden," "peradventure," and "whereto," the KJV is filled with out-of-date expressions that either fail to communicate with contemporary readers or mislead them entirely. I feel more comfortable with the first approach, because I think it's cool that you can pick a translation of a Bible that you can understand better, and get to know better about God Himself. And also get that translation in your own native tongue, that way you may know God's indescribable and awesome Holy Word.
answer
3. What is a Bible translation? Why is translation not a simple exercise? Describe the two main approaches to translation discussed in this chapter. Which approach do you feel most comfortable with? Why?

What are the guidelines for developing theological principles? The principle should be reflected in the text. The principle should be timeless and not tied to specific situation. The principle should not be culturally bound. The principle should correspond to teaching of the rest of Scripture. The principle should be relevant to both the biblical and the contemporary audience.

"Power" describes what will be given from the Holy Spirit. 5. "When" is a conjunction indicating the time of receiving power. 6. "The" is a definite article describing Holy Spirit"; the focus of the one bringing power. 7. "Holy Spirit" is the direct object of the main verb of this clause indicating who will give the power. 8. The Holy Spirit brings the power to be a witness. 9. "Has" is a third person singular verb indicating the Holy Spirit. 10. "Upon you" is the direct object of "has come" indicating the direct action of who will receive power from the "Holy Spirit". 11. "You" is the object on who the Holy Spirit will come upon. 12. "And" is a coordinating conjunction joining the two clauses and indicating the purpose for receiving the power of the Spirit. 13. "Shall" is the main verb of the dependent clause, future tense. 14. "My" is a first person possessive pronoun indicating who is speaking. 15. "Witnesses" is plural indicating that there is more than one witness. 16. "Witnesses" is a command from the one speaking to testify to others about the speaker. 17. "Both" is an adjective describing that two places are being referred to, not just one or the other. 18. "In" is a preposition indicating the location where the objects will be witnesses. 19. "All" is a pronoun describing every part of the two regions. 20. Three specific places are mentioned in this verse (Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria). 21. "And" is a conjunction that joins the specific areas of the previous clause with the clause to remote parts of the earth. 22. "Even" is an adverb that indicates the witnesses are to go beyond those places. 23. "Remotest" is an adjective describing the command to the witnesses to go to all populations regardless of location. 24. "Earth" describes the whole world as opposed to the heaven or heavens. 25. The cause of receiving power is the Holy Spirit coming upon the witnesses. 26. The result of the Holy Spirit coming is power to be witnesses in the remotest parts of the earth. 27. The verse also has a meaning that God will be with us wherever we go to spread His Holy Word. 28. Jesus tells His followers that they will be His people that show Jesus's messages through them. 29. And it is significant that Jesus picked these three places for His followers to be witnesses for Him. 30. Jesus is going to help spread His Word through His followers, in the many different languages that the whole world speaks.
answer
Assignment 3-1: Find a minimum of thirty observations in Acts 1:8. List them on a sheet of paper. Avoid making interpretations or applications at this stage. That is, stay with observations. For example, an observation would be to note that the passage starts off the conjunction "but." This conjunction connects the sentence to the one above it in a contrasting way. If, however, you were to note that the Holy Spirit empowers us for evangelism, that observation falls into the category of interpretation or application. Do not enter the interpretation or application phase yet. Limit all thirty of your observations to the details and not to the interpretation of the details. Work hard! Dig deep! Read and reread the passage. Do not quit until you have found at least thirty observations. Try to find more than thirty. Happy hunting!
