This excerpt delves deep into how work is negatively affected by sexual-economic relations. Men and women have developed their distinctive roles in the society. Whereas men earn a living to get a wife, women, on the other hand, are married to earn a living. Therefore, this has led to the concept of sex-competition. Women are seen as objects of sex and invest heavily in the sexual appeal and attraction mainly for economic gain. The bond sex and economic dynamics deform human relationships and people’s experience of work. “When the mate also becomes the master, when economic necessity is added to sex-attraction, we have the two great evolutionary forces acting together to the same end; namely, to develop sex-distinction in the human female. (136).”
This quote explains how man is viewed as the breadwinner of the woman from
...a sociological perspective. He is the major modifying force in the economic situation of the woman. There is no doubt the fact that when one of them does not have their money, it will affect the relationship. Many times the dependence identified as one of the major obstacles to the advancement of women. Things seem to be clearer when we refer to economic dependency or living conditions necessary to achieve and enjoy their autonomy.
In life, it is no surprise that women have come to depend on men for financial benefits. Men see women as sexual objects and are therefore willing to provide economic assistance to supplement this need. Women who depend on their partners economically tend to be faithful, while men, who depend on their wives, seem to have the opposite effect, much more independent.
Dependence is understood as th
need to have other people to meet our various forms of deprivation, is inherent in our condition as social beings. However, economic dependence by women on men and sexual dependence of men on women has led to the distortion of relationships and misrepresentation of sexual-economic relations.
