Feudalism declined directly after the medieval period however but it persisted even during the Renaissance. However, the form of feudalism that prevailed was significantly different from the system implement during the medieval period. During the Renaissance feudal lords became figure heads rather and vassals had effective control over their territories and relationship governed by regulatory treaties that provided independence of the states (Johnson, 2002).
For example, Norway and Sweden remained as vassals of Denmark but essentially had separate governments.In a contrasting example, England gained governance over Scotland when it became its vassal by virtue of the peace settlement between them In either scenario, the indicators of feudalism such as military service did not exist or could not be distinguished as due to the feudal relationship. However, the church was able to recover by responding to the calls of reforms though they have not been effective to stem the tides schism.
However, they have been effective in terms of preserving the power of Rome politically through its relationship with the monarchies of Europe as well as its social significance as a patron of the Renaissance movement. Thus, the many of the ideological principles of the period contravened religious teachings were not able to be utilized as a critique of Rome.
