My two brothers grew up in the same place and are from the same parents. They have many of the same similarities. Both brothers loved playing baseball, fishing, and hunting. They grew up on a large farm at the foot of Fox Mountain. They had 300 acres of forest to enjoy hiking and looking for Indian artifacts. Our parents left us when we were young; luckily our great grandmother kept us together and raised us. After our parents left us, that’s when the similarities started to change between my brothers. Scott became the “Golden Child” and Tony was considered the “Black Sheep” of the family.

Scott was golden tan with blonde hair and brown eyes. He had freckles with a smile that would brighten up the room. He was quite, but very

mischievous. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed being by himself. He never would share his feelings with anyone. Scott kept all of his emotions to himself. He became even more introverted after our parents left us. Both sets of grandparents realized he was withdrawing from everyone and would show him more attention and affection. However, Scott was not dumb to this fact and he started taking advantage of all of the extra attention.

In my grandparents eyes, he could do nothing wrong. He was just much better at hiding the bad things he did. As Scott grew up, he was more concerned about himself. He did not care or was not concerned about anyone else’s problems. He has a family now and works as a paramedic. His life looks perfect on the outside, but you can see in his

eyes he is very lonely. My brother Tony looks like an Indian. He has jet black hair, dark complexion with dark brown eyes. He was very extroverted and this increased after our parents left. Unfortunately, Tony started using drugs at the age of 12.

Before using drugs he was told he had a photographic memory. He also had a great future in baseball. He gradually lost all interest in anything that was good in his life. He went from using marijuana to using cocaine and acid. There was not a drug that my brother would not try. Tony started selling drugs. He was caught with drugs and went to reform school at the age of 15 years old. Nothing my grandparents tried seemed to curb his appetite for drugs. He obviously had a very addictive personality, which would not allow him to stop.

This pattern of drug abuse continued throughout his life. He would have moments of reprieve from using drugs, but it would always creep back into his life. He had a wife, a son and a job. He lost his wife, son, cars, home, and job when he went to prison for selling and manufacturing drugs. While in prison, he found out he had HIV from sharing needles. Tony continues using drugs to this day. I love my brother Tony because he really is a sweet and loving person, but he has an addictive personality that he cannot seem to control.

Even with all of this going against Tony, if you needed anything that he had, he would give it to you and go without just to make someone else

happy. Life is very funny. It is amazing how two brothers can have so many similarities, but yet be so very different. Tony is considered the “Black Sheep” because of all the trouble he has been in during his life. However, he has the biggest heart of anyone in the family. Scott is considered the “Golden Child” but does not give anyone anything. I love both of my brothers, but Tony is my favorite. He may be the “Black Sheep” but he has a heart and shows love to others.
