My Uncle My Hero Picture this: a little girl at five dancing around the living room on her daddy’s feet. Now picture her at sixteen going on her first date and her dad interrogating the boy. Finally, picture her at eighteen, and her father sitting proudly in the stands watching her get her diploma. Now you have pictured these scenes erase the dad’s part of it and add an uncle. This has been my life for the past eighteen years. Instead, of the dad being an influence on my life, my uncle Jamie has been the biggest influence on my life and being the dad I had never had.
Ever since I was a little girl and moved here from Woonsocket, Rhode Island we have lived with
...my aunt and uncle and my three cousins Lisa, Allison, and Catherine. My uncle has always pushed me to do my best in school. Even with having my uncle push me hard to do well in school we had awesome times and memories. One memory I have my uncle and I is every year he would wake me up at eleven fifty at night and go see the midnight viewing of the latest Harry Potter movie.
When we would get there we get the same snacks every year I would get a large cherry coke and he would get a large regular coke and we would share large popcorn and I would get a box of squiggles or some other sort of sugary treat. My uncle is my influence because he does everything for me and helps me in any way he can. If
I had issues and I needed help with them my uncle is the person I would go to. My uncle is the main reason why I am pushing myself through college (also because of my mom). Besides growing up without a dad in my life yes may be hard but I have the next best thing: my uncle.
He has influenced me to be the best person I can be and that I can do whatever I want. For example, when the rest of my family didn’t think I was going to graduate my uncle was right there pushing me and pushing me to get the work I needed turned in. He is and always continues to be a positive role model to me. He always there when I am at the bottom of my game, always backing me up on decisions I make even though I do not usually chose the wisest path to take. He encourages me to stand up tall and get back on my own feet.
My uncle has a huge impact on the way I become a person today. He has influenced my life by teaching me the lessons and showing me the right behaviors from wrong. No matter what I do and when I need advice on what to do, I can always count on my uncle. He has exerted real influence on me to change me. I know that much of what I am today is due to him. He has played a big role throughout my life. My uncle is one of the main reasons why I am who I am today. Without him life
would not be the same. From the day I was born he has been one of my favorite role models.
His ethics and values taught me how to be a person and a lady. For instance every day from school he always asks me; "what homework I have,” and (he would know if I was lying about if I had homework because he knew I hated doing homework) "how was my day," "how was school," (even though he knew the answer to that one also) and kept me on my toes. He has been my backbone and I know without his stern and firm personality scolding me I would not be where I am today. Whenever I was down or worried I would always confide in him for advice or help.
If I needed school help he would be the one to go to. My mother was also there for me too but not like how he was. He was very persistent in my studies and told me to keep my head up as what I put into my work is what I will get out of it. He taught me the values of life and to enjoy each day as if it was your last, and friendships come and go, but family will always be there by your side; through the good and bad times. I remember when I was young and immature I would never understand why he would never let me have my own way all the time or why he would be so firm with me!
Now that I have grown up more and I have entered college
I understand why I was always told to study so I could do well in high school so I could go on to college. An example of him being the biggest influence on my life is he has been the dad I never had. I went to him when my boyfriend and I broke up. This is what my uncle told me, he said, “Samantha, I will always be here for you no matter what, and I will never leave you”. Another time I knew I had disappointed my uncle by bringing a pocket knife to school I forgot I had and got caught with it.
When the school called my house, I knew my uncle was going to answer, and all I thought was “please do not be mad” and he was disappointed in me and had grounded me for basically the whole summer. As I now reflect back on moments, I had with my uncle I realize I did not have a bad childhood. Yes, I may not have a father in my life and yes my mom does work a lot, but my uncle will always be there for me.
So here is something for you to think about one: do you have that person in your life that has greatly influenced ou? Two do they know it and have you told them how much you appreciate them and what they do for you? If not then you should let them know sometime. I tell my uncle a lot how much I appreciate him, and everything he has done for me and my brothers. I even call him daddy. This
is why my uncle is the one who has greatly influenced my life. As one of my uncles favorite quotes say “Move it or lose it” in his words it means if you don’t do what you say you are going to do then you will lose your opportunity to do it again.
