Essays On Texting And Driving
Texting while driving has become a major issue in recent years. It is very dangerous and puts the lives of drivers, their passengers, and other people on the road at risk. Texting and driving can cause serious distractions that result in accidents, injuries, or even death. The risks associated with texting while behind the wheel are undeniable. When a driver takes his/her eyes off of the road for more than five seconds to check a text message it increases their chance of being involved in an accident by up to 23 times. Even if you only look away from the road for two seconds it can double your stopping distance which could be enough to cause an accident if something unexpected happens ahead. Not only does texting increase your chance of getting into an accident but it also affects how well you drive overall. Studies have shown that when texting while driving there is increased lane drifting, less speed control, slower reaction time, as well as decreased visual scanning compared to when not using a phone at all. These factors make it much easier for motorists who are distracted by their phones to miss important information such as stop signs or pedestrians crossing intersections – all leading to potentially tragic consequences. In order to reduce the number of accidents caused by this increasingly common behavior lawmakers across America have begun introducing laws restricting cellphone usage while behind the wheel. In some states these laws prohibit any motorist from engaging in any form of communication with their cell phone including talking and even hands free devices like Bluetooth headsets; however most commonly they outlaw texting specifically since sending messages on your phone requires more attention than simply speaking into one would. No matter what state you live in though it’s best practice (and often required depending on where you are) not to use your device while operating a vehicle ” so stay safe out there.
