Lamb To The Slaughter Essay Examples
Roald Dahl wrote “Lamb to the slaughter” in 1954. This short story has a major element of dark comedy mixed with horror and thriller. It was so popular that filmmakers used for “Tales of the Unexpected”, a British TV series. Any good essay about lamb to the slaughter should be centered around black double entendre. The main characters in the story are Patrick Maloney and Mary Maloney, a couple expecting their first child.
At the beginning of the story, Patrick Maloney, a police officer, returns home from work to consume the beverage that Mary prepared for him. Mary insists on preparing dinner for both of them, despite her pregnancy. The situation irritated Patrick, who told her of his plans for a divorce. Consequently, the use of symbolism in lamb to the slaughter essay analysis cannot be overemphasized.
The story rounds off when Mary killed Patrick with a lamb’s leg by mistake. She tried to play smart by calling the police immediately.
