Essays on Alternative Energy
Alternative energy is any form of energy that does not rely on traditional fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas. Alternative energies are renewable sources of energy which can be used for electricity generation, transportation and other purposes. Some of the most common alternative energies include solar power, wind power, hydropower, geothermal energy and biomass. In recent years there has been an increasing focus on exploring the potential of these forms of clean energy in order to reduce our dependence on traditional fossil fuels due to their harmful environmental impacts. The use of alternative energies offers a number of benefits over traditional methods; primarily that they are renewable sources meaning they will never run out or become exhausted like fossil fuels can. They also produce no emissions when generating electricity meaning that there are no carbon dioxide or other pollutants released into the atmosphere like with conventional fuel sources. Furthermore, some alternative energies can be produced more cheaply than their non-renewable counterparts making them more cost effective in the long term. Despite these advantages however there are still a number of challenges posed by utilizing alternative energies instead of traditional ones; largely due to their less predictable nature compared to conventional fuel sources. Solar and wind power for instance can only generate electricity when it is sunny or when winds reach a certain speed respectively making it difficult to ensure reliable supplies during times when conditions may not allow for production from these resources alone. Additionally many countries lack the infrastructure needed in order to make full use of potential alternative energy sources such as large scale hydroelectric dams or dedicated biofuel plants meaning investments must first be made before any gains from implementing new technologies can be seen at all levels within society.
Introduction Iran, a signatory of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, has faced international scrutiny for its alleged pursuit of nuclear weapons. Nevertheless, Iran maintains that its nuclear program is exclusively dedicated to civilian and military objectives, including the advancement of nuclear energy. The creation of the Bushehr nuclear power plant is part of this civilian effort. […]
Naomi Klein minces no words in confronting the corporate structure that purports to be fighting for the conservation of the environment while it does the bare minimal in curbing pollution. These organizations, ‘Big Green Movements’ partner with the polluting companies and states in very questionable working relationships that do not work to reduce emissions in […]
Introduction Biomass can be described as an organic substance resulting from past living organisms or living organisms. It is mostly used as an energy source that entails plant-based constituents that are not edible in what is commonly referred to as lignocellulose biomassendnoteRef:1. As an energy source, one can use it directly or indirectly through combustion […]
Introduction The evolution of energy use runs back to the period when human beings learnt to make fire for cooking and manufacturing primitive implements. Many years later the principle of sail was discovered by Egyptians, where water was used as form of energy. Throughout history, ways of taking various sources of energy and using them […]
Introduction Alternative sources of energy refer to all those sources in which fossil fuel is not consumed. In addition to being friendly to the environment, these energy sources are readily available (Michaelides 7). Some of the alternative energy sources being used today include solar, wind, geothermal and energy. These sources help conserve the environment due […]
One major issue the world is grappling with is the occurrence of extreme climate fluctuations. These changes are compelling individuals to relocate from areas where preventing such alterations is not possible. It highlights the limitations humans face in controlling these fluctuations, as seen in Greenland, situated in the North Atlantic region. The situation in Greenland […]
Introduction Unlike non-renewable sources of energy, renewable sources of energy are the type o energy which is obtained from resources that are naturally replenished on a human timescale, for example, wind, waves, sunlight, tides and geothermal heat (Michaelides, 2012). Most of the renewable energy is obtained directly or indirectly from the sun. The sun’s heat […]
