1. Complex Interaction Model (CI): students in a group are given specific roles that rotate. All members are equal and important. 2. Instructional Conversation (IC): a discussion based strategy where students express ideas and build on their own experiences. Student focused with more talk occurring by students than the teacher.

1. Contextualization: Present content multiple times through means that are rich in auditory, visual and kinesthetic components 2. Modeling: Hands on, show and tell 3. Speech adjustment: Speak slower and more articulately, reduce amount of talking 4. Comprehension Check: Have students show evidence of understanding non-verbally (thumbs up/thumbs down), paraphrase other students, draw or graph understanding, multiple choice answers

1. Bridging 1: Developing experiences that students can relate to the subject (field trips, films, experiments, etc) 2. Bridging 2: Linking experience from students' lives (brainstorming, KWL, Venn diagrams, 20 questions, interviews) 3. Schema building: scaffolding strategies to link new learning to old. Building graphic organizers to link main ideas and details

1. Submersion in an English classroom with no accommodations for L2 learners. 2. A substitute for primary language instruction 3. A watered down curriculum

1. Teacher believes all children can learn 2. Teacher understands that all students have language and skills can transfer from one language to another. 3. Teacher recognizes that the home language provides self concept and should be used at times. 4. Teacher is constantly learning.
