It can arise from insurmountable obstacles, lack of necessary skills, or disruptions in stress management. The crisis process involves four stages: initially adequate coping mechanisms are present; then disorientation and tension increase as the event escalates; additional resources are required for further resolution; finally, external assistance becomes necessary for major personality disorientation. In cases requiring immediate intervention to prevent harm or death, it becomes a behavioral emergency. Crisis has both overwhelming effects leading to severe conditions like homicide and suicide but also offers an opportunity for growth and self-realization by seeking help.
