Conditions That Led Hitler and Castro to Rise in Germany and Cuba Essay Example
Both Germany and Cuba had once popular leaders in the form of Hitler and Castro, respectively.
Despite Hitler and Castro having similar speaking abilities, fierceness, and strength, their rise to power was due to a combination of political conditions and socioeconomic realities. These factors included weak leadership, communism, social and economic issues, and a need for strong leadership. Before these leaders came into power, Germany and Cuba had already reached critical points. In the case of Germany, the collapse began when its new government signed 1919's Treaty of Versailles at the end of World War I resulting in significant losses in power, soldiers, land among other things.
During the harsh winter months of 1923, Germany experienced devastating hyperinflation. The exchange rate skyrocketed to 100 trillion Marks for one United States Dollar, causing scarcity and widespread devastation in essential items like
...food, shelter, warm clothing, and fuel.
Germany and Cuba both experienced economic struggles in the past. Germany faced unemployment and its resulting issues, such as hunger, healthcare problems, and higher mortality rates due to the Great Depression in 1929. Meanwhile, Cuba was on the verge of collapse during the 1940s.
In 1940, Cuba held democratic elections resulting in Batista's victory. Though Batista allowed communism, American Economics were too exploitative for Cubans. This led to further economic regulation, decreased investments, and an elevated tax burden with uncertain consequences. Eventually, rising unemployment affected university graduates who could not find job opportunities.
This led to an increase in the poverty rate in Cuba and Germany during their respective economic crises. The populace yearned for a leader who could put an end to these issues, resulting in the rise of Hitler and Castro. As
such, extreme economic conditions played a crucial role in their ascent to power. Additionally, there were many social factors that contributed to their rise.
