Riordan Manufacturing has established a confidential ad hoc committee to carry out various tasks regarding the acquisition of JJJ Company, including due diligence. The committee was appointed by the chairman of the board (COB) of Riordan. All members of the committee are acquainted with each other and have previously worked together in diverse capacities.
John and Beth, both from the accounting team, have examined the records for JJJ Company and are getting ready to present their conclusions about the possible acquisition to the CEO and COB. Their evaluation suggests that JJJ may not be financially secure enough to proceed. In 1990, John obtained a BA in Accounting from the University of Phoenix. Since 2004, he has been working for Riordan as a staff accountant and was promoted to Accounting Manager in 2007. He is a democratic leader who prioritizes sales

In 2008, Beth earned a BA in Accounting from University of Phoenix, and in 2007, she took up the role of accounting assistant at Riordan after graduating college. Recently, John, the accounting manager, promoted her to staff accountant. The leadership style at Riordan is laissez-faire, with a focus on policies and procedures. William, the CEO of Riordan, prioritizes profits for the company and dividends for stockholders when considering acquisitions. He trusts John for advice on accounting oversight despite his own business knowledge.
William holds an MBA degree in finance from the University of Phoenix in 2000 and has been president of Riordan since 2006 after being recruited by the COB. As an authoritarian leader, he is focused on the bottom-line. Meanwhile, Mark, the sales manager, is enthusiastic about JJJ's sales figures and th
opportunities they offer Riordan.
Although Mark has a BA in History from University of Phoenix in 1995 and no knowledge of accounting, he is interested in obtaining their book of business. He joined Riordan in 2005 from JJJ Company where he was the top sales employee. He is a democratic leader who prioritizes new sales initiatives and is highly attentive to his sales team. Meanwhile, Dana serves as the marketing manager.
Although she is a new addition to the company, Dana has been closely associated with Mark and his sales team for several years. Together with Mark, she is thrilled about introducing Riordan into a new market and utilizing the marketing channels of JJJ. Dana earned her MBA from the University of Phoenix in 2007 and was previously employed at a competing firm. With her energetic leadership skills and democratic style, she has been collaborating with the sales manager and her own team to revamp the marketing department.
To fulfill its intended purpose and address the intended audience, a CEO and an Ad Hoc Committee must write one communique each for two additional options, for a total of four. These options should cover the roles, audience, and purpose of the communication.
