question
Rise of Kush
answer
-Kush and Egypt were neighbors and lived in peace for most of the time due to the large supply of slaves, gold, ebony, and copper that Kush provided for Egypt -As Kush grew in power due to trade, Egypt became fearful of invasion -So in 15oo BC Egypt sent an army to conquer Egypt, they conquered egypt, controlled Kush as well as destroyed their capital; Kerma -Kush remained Egyptian teritory for over 450 years. -In the 1000's BC the Egyptian New Kingdom ended, Kush began to grow in power, so much that it actually became independant -After this we know nothing for the next 200 years. -In 850Bc Egypt regained full power and ruled from its new capital known as Napata, which was 100 miles east of Kerma. -In the 700'sBc The Kushite King known as Kashta invaded all of Upper Egypt by his death on 751BC -His son Piankhi continued his fathers wish, and by 716BC conquered all of lower Egypt. -His brother Shakaba declared himself pharaoh and began the 25th dynasty. He claimed to be the heir of great old pharaoh and tried restoring old Egyptian cultural traditions such as pyramid building. (he was buried in one) -He also restored old Temples
question
Fall of Kush
answer
-The Kushite/25th Dynasty remained strong for over 40 years, until one day a Mesopotamian group of people known as the Assyrians attacked Kush -In a short period of 10 years the Assyrians kicked Kush out of Egypt with their iron weapons, and chariots which defeated Kush's archers -After this Kush relied on agriculture and trading to survive, in just a few centuries this gave them power, success and wealth. -Their new capital known as Meroë was also their trade center and its location east bank of the nile, helped Kush's economy grow. -The east bank of the nile contained large deposits of gold and iron aswell as ebony and other wood forests. -This allowed Ksuh to develop the first african iron indusrty. -They soon became the center of a large trade network -They started coming in touch with other cultures, making and changinf their culture -Their houses were unique -They developed their own writing system known as Meroitic, which is still unreadable -Many queens ruled Kush, more than in Egypt -A while later Kush began suffering from economic problems such as ruined soil (because of cattle overgrazing), no more wood and forests (because of excessive wood cutting, and a significant less amount of goods because of using all resources. -Fellow Kush trading parteners started to bypass Kush -In 300AD The Aksumite King known as King Ezana and his army invaded Kush and destroyed Meroë; they took advantafe of Kush's weakness. -Eventually Aksum became Christian and all of Kush's influence was gone.
