Enrique's Journey, which was a Story of a Boy's Dangerous Odyssey trying to reunite with His Mother. Nazario is trying to tell a story about a seventeen year –old –boy who is in the attempt of harrowing in finding his mother in America. This made her win two Pulitzer Prizes when it came out in Los Angeles Times (Davison and Jean Ann, 2015). The story in the book has a gripping and is portraying an experience of illegal immigration from Central America. The plan of his mother was to sneak in the states of United States for some years, work hard, save and then send money. And after that, move back to home to stay with her kids. ...ne of the many children’s and teenagers who usually enters in U.S without rules each year. They get in, by ridding the tops of a freight train by passing by Mexico, and these little migrants prey. Most of them were mutilated in the course of the journey and others go crazy.
Nazario in her research of finding out why Latin single ladies leaves their young children and travels to the USA hence making them face danger as they try to trace them. She had tripped a story from one of the families of the Enrique. Who had been abandoned by their mother, and attempted seven times to Texas. And he faced challenges of being beaten and robbed by bandits, jailed and was deported from time to time but later she found the mother. They were strangers
in away but they were then united and he was given money to help him cross the border and go back (Puga and Ana Elena, pg.73) In the same time Enrique’s girlfriend bore a kid, and after three years too she joined them leaving the child behind. This behavior of mothers makes the families separate and straining the ties in between.
Some of the themes that are portrayed in the book is love, family, journey, and abandonment. Nazario tried to explore on how families are being affected due to immigration. Abandonment is also revealed on when Enrique was left by his parents as well as him and his wife leaving their journey and yet he faced all dangers in the journey (Davison and Jean Ann, 2015). The story is stunning in a way because of the current immigration controversy to personal life from the political one. It is also gripping and harrowing as it is started by narrating. It is important to note that the author traced the journey of Enrique of traveling by train, taking of buses, and the dangers they faced. They were interviewed on who gives them aid in the course of the journey and gave answers.
