Abstract Expressionism, was inspired by the Surrealism movement and one of the movements main contributors was Jackson Pollock. "Jack the Dripper", as he was known, used the "drip technique," controlled gestures, non‐representational style, and a lack of focal points in this painting. Pollock creates a large "field" of negative space so that the viewer can lose themselves in these dance like motions of creation. The spontaneity of his movements was an important factor in maintaining the artists' focus for a unified expression.
