1865 Abolition of slavery (involuntary servitude). Congress has the power to enforce this via legislation.

1868 Citizenship given to ex-slaves. Three-fifths clause abolished. Leading ex-Confederates denied office. Ex-Confederates forced to repudiate their debts and pay pensions to their own (CSA) veterans, plus taxes for the pensions of Union veterans. Congress has the power to enforce this via legislation.

1870 Suffrage given to black males. Congress has the power to enforce this via legislation.

1913 Income tax established.

1913 Direct election of senators by popular vote.

1919 Prohibition; forbade the sale and manufacture of intoxicating liquors.

1920 Woman suffrage.

1993 Start of presidential and VP terms moved to January 20th. (shortened lame-duck periods) Start of congressional terms moved to January 3rd. Congress will meet on January 3rd. Emergency presidential and vice presidential succession.

1933 Prohibition repealed. Local laws regarding prohibition will be honored. (dry vs. wet counties, states, etc.)

1951 Limits the president to 2 terms.

1961 District of Columbia vote. Congress has the power to enforce this via legislation.

1964 Poll tax abolished. Congress has the power to enforce this via legislation.

1967 If the president dies, resigns, or is impeached, the VP will become president. If the VP office is vacant, the president will nominate a VP, who will take office after a majority vote in House and Senate. If the president is disable, the VP will serve for him. Procedure for disqualifying or requalifying president established.

1971 Eighteen-year old vote. Congress has the power to enforce this via legislation.

1992 Restriction of congressional pay raises--Congress is not allowed to increase its own current pay.
