"A Gap of Sky" from 2008, we hear about an English student and an ordinary day for this girl In London. In reality, we get introduced to a whole world of a young girl. In the story, we hear about a nineteen-year-old girl who lives in London. She wakes up in her bed and feels really tired after a long night of partying with friends.

Suddenly she realizes that she has to do some homework - an essay for the university.

She understands that the time is running out and abruptly a series of obstacles get in her way, making it difficult to her to get the essay one In time. In this story, It seems like the girl Is kind of high or Intoxicated from the night before. We get to know, that Elli has some serious difficulties remembering what happen

ed and why she woke up so late. She appears to be stressed out and frustrated, and it only gets worse the more she thinks about it. "Monday. It is Monday. Essay there is an essay due, important, due for Tuesday morning. Virginia Wolf. And the... What was the title? Something Oyster of Perceptiveness. Buck. How the buck did she manage to sleep for so long?"

She uses a lot of curse words to express her frustration and talks Like a typical teenager. She Is very descriptive throughout the story. She definitely feels tired and exhausted. The reason for this can be because of drugs and alcohol.

Throughout the story, Elli is on a journey to find ink, and that's apparently the main plot. Many things and thoughts are running through her mind, especially when

she constantly looks at the clock.

I have the impression that Elli is trying to escape from the essay, but when she thinks twice about It, she remembers that her teacher gave her one last chance. This will affect her In many ways. The consequence of not doing her homework, Is that she Is obligated to repeat the school year again.

This point really has an influence on her. She keeps thinking about it, and here we get to understand many more of the thoughts that fill her daily life. Elli has an internal fight with herself, and this comes to expression in those moments when she feels confused and begins to think in an ambivalent way.

This comes to expression In the following quote: "Elli doesn't want to go to a shop now, couldn't go Into a shop now, doesn't want any bloody Ink, can't write an essay, no matter what, no matter what It matters, doesn't want any ore coke, ever again. She wants to be outside, to stay outside, to walk and walk and walk" Instead of facing the homework and getting it done, she comes with excuses and creates more problems in her head, to avoid the situation.

She is certainly stressed and because of lack of sleep, she only gets more and more confused and frustrated.

Maybe she realizes that the coke affects her in a bad way, even her mood gets worse. At one point In the story, she Is complaining about the essay and trying to blame everybody else, except herself. But most of all her parents, as we hear in this tote: "Life seems, suddenly, filled with possibility, with

giddy possibility, with irreverence, with delight, for what, really, was there to be reverent to? To whom? To what? To why? To God? To Mum? To Dad? Not them especially not them. It was their fault she was doing this bloody course in the first place."

By saying these words Elli Is considered as an Immature or even selfish person. She rejects the normal she gets more negative and pessimistic until she walks into a store. In this store, she finds some stones that remind her of her mother, who gave Elli a similar stone that was supposed to protect her. After this, she begins to be more positive and wants to give it a second chance instead of giving up. In the following quote, the narrator compares the city and the people with Elli: "Elli walks out of the shop and onto the street. It is filled with people, and everyone, everyone Elli sees has the same substance within them, around them, connecting them, looping between them in great bonds of love."

The city symbolizes all the thoughts Elli has. In a city, you can do whatever you want, but on the other hand, you can also get into a lot of trouble. For instance, drugs can be compared to a demon that both helps but also confuses Elli. It makes her feel better in the instance, but it is also tearing her down and endangering her life.

In a way, the city functions as a disadvantage because it gives Elli the freedom to do whatever she wants, but at the same time, she can't seem to control herself in certain situations. She is torn between

what she wants, and what she has to do. As we hear in the ending: "She will write her essay and that will be a good thing. A good thing and the right thing to do." In life, you have to make some decisions, choose right from wrong, but it's not always that simple, like a gap in the sky.
